You have no clue what his batting order numbers are, do ya. He’s a 101 ops+ batting 3rd and a 214 batting second. There is just 11 PA’s difference on the season between batting order positions.
Because the lineup spot for him doesn’t fit in your little traditionalist box, you want him as an average hitter instead of a great hitter.
Careful what you wish for. He has 6 HR batting second on less PA’s, than his 1 HR batting 3rd.

Of course, the idea is the 3rd slot will have more runners aboard to be potentially driven in. But that depends upon a number of factors. Do you have a high OBP hitter who does well up in the order to put 2nd? Do you have a threat to bat behind in 4th? That sort of thing. Right now, Donovan is not a high OBP hitter, and others have done real well up in the order. Arenado is in the midst of a career slump. Putting Goldy 2nd and Gorman 3rd for now is not indefensible at all.
So, if I’m clear about what you’re driving at, jj, you’re basing the type of hitter Paul Goldschmidt is on 35 games? If that’s indeed the case, I’d like to mention that he’s played in over 1600 of them in his 13 year career…I’d also like to once again mention that he was awarded a NL MVP last season. A season in which he played in over 150 games. You and I both know that he was slotted at 3 for over 95% of those 150 games last season. Moreover, he’s been slotted at 3 for the majority of his career. He’s never been an average hitter and has always been a great hitter. That’s my clue and that’s my case…
I advocated moving Gorman up in the order weeks ago. But absolutely not into the 3 slot. That’s silly. The young guy’s still trying to make his bones. Now you want him to be Albert, Goldy, Simmons or Hernandez? Put him at 5 and call it good for a couple of weeks.

I don’t hate Goldschmidt 2, but don’t love it. To me I like Edman, Nootbaar, Goldschmidt, Arenado, Gorman, Contreras, Donovan, Carlson, Knizner… right now, if that’s the 9 were using.
I wonder what happened to Nado? He’s scuffling, so maybe just a night off. Maybe we’ll see him on the dugout steps with his manager while he explains to the 3B’man some of the more complex intricacies of the game. A fun and informative learning experience…
Arenado has been hitting poorly. Maybe we will see him on the step between Oli and Turner Ward, receiving instruction.

I wonder how long Barnhart will kick around the HP area dirt when Contreras walks over to step in? He should get a decent show of appreciation from the Wrigley crowd.
Skinny legs has looked much better recently. He was really “feeling” for the ball early and being super handsy with his swing. He’s been much not fluid with more aggressive swings and letting his hands do the work in the swing, not be all the swing.
Down goes Bucknor…almost. Took a jarring foul in the chin/face. Then rings up Knizner on one off the plate.
Wonder if he and Oli shook hands today.
