Alcantara not sharp today for Miami – walked 4 in 5.2 innings.

Edman with a really nice looking scoop, spin and bullseye. Reminds me the infield defense is what I enjoyed most about last year’s team.

Pallante loses the speedy Merrifield after being ahead in the count…..but gets out of it.

Too early to PH or sac?

Uh oh. The youngster gets a chance to rouse the home crowd…

He gets down the line real good and picks up the go ahead RBI.

Puts it in play – a little hesitation at second and Walker beats it out. 7-6.

Guerrero with a nice play – they have made a couple of plays to stay in this one. The catch by Springer earlier and now this one.

Never like Hicks in a close one. But it’s a new season and maybe he will show better command.

Wow – talk about a couple of cheap hits. Sheesh!

HP ump Iassogna just called a strike on Donovan that was at least a half foot off the plate and completely changed the complexion of the at bat. Clearly Iassogna is a subset of his name.

Both hits on pitches that overmatched the hitter. Evil baseball gypsies at work today…

Why is Hicks pitching the 8th? Most predictable way to lose a lead late. Are Gio & Helsley both not available?

As I said, never like Hicks in close games. Just does not have the command you need to keep runners off base. But he did deserve better on those first two hits.

Hopefully he did not seriously hurt our new catcher. Contreras looked good on both offense and defense.

17 Toronto bingles. That’s a boat load of hits to overcome. You don’t lose too many when you have 17 base knocks.

Cards back in the lead, 2-run double by Arenado. Pen gets a 3rd chance to save it.

Good idea trying the bunt with Knizner, but lousy execution. Looked like he has never worked in it.

Arenado really keeps his head down on the ball. Text book way to hit.

Assume we will see Helsley here.

What were the odds the Cards would have lost this game scoring 9 runs? Next to zero, I’d think. So obviously Helsley will save it now.

I like Helsley’s haircut, but so much his control on his 4-pitch walk to start the 9th.
