With #STLCards RHP Adam Wainwright dealing with "dead arm," the team's plan was to let him throw approximately 85 pitches today. However, he had a rocky three innings while allowing four earned runs, six hits, three doubles and three walks. Of his 74 pitches only 44 were strikes.

Dickerson has walked once in the last 60 days. I don’t care how much contact you make…you’re not going to get enough hits to make up for the free swinging act. Certainly the Cards won’t consider signing him again, will they?
Will Goldschmidt still be hitting .300 at the end of the season? His average has dropped 15 points in the last three weeks and OPS is also tumbling away.
Dan M. just mentioned the Cleveland, “Guardians” have clinched the ALC. I still don’t understand why they got rid of that nice looking smiling indian on their ballcaps. Heck, I miss Chief Knockahoma for the Braves. He sure had a heck of a dance on the war path when he’d emerge from that tee-pee after a Brave’s HR…Haha!
This Andre Jackson fellow has an ERA over 5 the last two years in AAA. Must be starting doesn’t suit him much. It’s tough to imagine this offense suddenly getting restarted, but it would be nice for an inning.
gscottar, DMac and Thompson talked about how “they” considered giving Adam additional rest but decided to work through it instead. Is there something medically/statistically to indicate rest doesn’t help a dead arm? Not sure, but it’s counterintuitive if so. Plus, there’s nothing urgent about needing him to go on regular rest now.
It makes about as much sense as saying I’m sleep deprived and not functioning well, but instead of getting some shut-eye, I’m going to work through it.

BP looked good and I kind of got the impression that the Dodgers may be a little vulnerable to LHP’ing. At any rate, the Redbirds are going to have to get the bats going at precisely the right time if they’re going to have success in the post-season. This year’s edition is going to have to outslug their opponent in any post-season series and I think they match up better in that category with any team they’ll potentially face.
EuroDandy…I would bet no too, on Dickerson. The FO will trade for Trout in the off-season and Mozeliak will have a statue with a bow tie next to Musial down on Spruce St…They won’t need Corey anymore. Haha!
Last year, we went into the playoffs blazing hot and it didn’t matter. Maybe this year we’ll go in middling and catch fire at the right time.
I’ve noticed that everyone on this site grabs their keys and heads to the parking lot quickly at the end of a game. On a couple of sites I’ve been on in the past, most would linger for a while and comment on who should be fired or released after a Redbird loss…Haha!
stlcard25…Yeah, but last season was that 1 game elimination. Schildt handed the baseball to Reyes and season over. Imagine how the Dodgers would have felt if we could have won that single game after they had won 106 games during the regular season and only qualified for a WC after finishing behind SF in the NLW.
TD, I think we are all saving our energy for the playoffs. Most of us recognize that this team is pretty well locked into the spot they are in for October. The hope is that the bats come to life again, specifically Goldy and Arenado.
stlcard25…Most definitely regarding the bats. I feel we match up better than anyone insofar as the ability to outslug an opponent. Like you mentioned, we have to hope that the big kids are ripping the baseball come the post-season. We don’t have the dominant stopper sort of SP’er.

We can hope. However, although The Cards did win 17 in a row, Shildt shut it down somewhat with some makeshift lineups to rest people for the last week or so. There’s a delicate balance needed there and I thought Shildt went too extreme at the time. Cards lost 3 of their last 5 before losing to LAD.
EuroDandy…And if I recall rightly, he shut it down during that W streak after they’d clinched a WC spot. I’m a believer of when a machine is spinning over to perfection, don’t touch or tweak anything.

We have had a good year with the bats…at one point the top offense in the majors, by wRC+/OPS+. Things certainly look a bit more bleak when Goldy and Arenado aren’t hitting…but there’s still a week plus to get it turned around. It would be nice to find some balance between the feast and famine before the playoffs start.
stlCard25…I’m with you on that. And it can’t just be Goldy and Nado. Eddie’s cooled off quite a bit. Him, Donnie and others are going to have to set the table for the two big kids. I’ll never turn down taters, but they taste a lot better when they’re the 2 or 3 run variety. I also like the fact that we feature both Pujols and Molina. You can almost call the two post-season battle hardened veterans a genuine tangible asset. It sure would be something if one or both of them had a major impact this Oct.
