Front Row Amy’s mom told the Cardinals clubhouse she was taking her daughter and grand daughter (Amy) to Milwaukee and leaving St. Louis, perhaps?

Carter: Must be that incident between Groat and Keane that Busch heard about from his daughter who heard about it from her boyfriend Eddie Mathews of the Braves. Busch was furious the whole league know about it before he did.

LeGrand…Was it in any way related to any sort of racial tensions or maybe the occurence of an insult or slur? That was a bit before my time and I never heard of anything between Cardinal teammates, but I’m aware that almost every black player on that ’64 team was subjected to that sort of nonsense at some point. Flood and White especially. I also know that Gussie, although he had a few shortcomings, would have never, ever tolerated anything like that.

Dom: Not racial. Bling boy knows his stuff. To be continued …

The answer to the first baseball trivia question is Ferguson Jenkins and Steve Carlton. On Aug. 4th 1982, Joel Youngblood became the first and only Big League player to get hits for two different teams in two different cities in the same day. On that date he played a day game at Wrigley Field for the NY Mets in which he singled and drove in 2 runs off of future HOF pitcher Ferguson Jenkins in the 3rd inning. Youngblood was on deck in the 4th when he was called back to the dugout and told he’d been traded to the Montreal, Expos and that it was requested that he try to make himself available for an Expos’ game in Philadelphia later that night. He arrived at Veteran’s Stadium during the 6th inning of that night’s game and was summoned for PH duties. He then reached base on an IF single allowed by future HOF’er Steve Carlton. Not a bad day’s work…

Dom… bad news: Gussie was behind the horrid Solly Hemus who was disliked by his coaches and some of his players and HATED by White, Flood and especially Bob Gibson, 3 players any team would give a left nut for. He knew what was going on there and said or did nothing

Gibson lambasted Hemus in his book pointing out that not only did he limit their playing time but openly showed disdain for the men.

GM Bing Devine wanted him fired but Gussie wouldn’t do it until…the fans started booing Hemus every time he stuck his head out of the dugout. Keane now had the job

An easy first for Snell. You sort of wonder how a guy like him has been so middling in San Diego.

Sub 3 FIP, 11+ K/9, BB have been a problem.

Dom…it’s not that old Gussie was a blazing racist. He was a man of his time, insensitive to the /social/racial issues of which any rich industrialist that bought a team in a sport he knew squat about would be.

Mikolas with a 1-2-3 1st. 2 Ks and a couple of nasty wrinkles.

Step #1 to increase scoring probability:

Quit swinging at all the garbage way out of the strike zone. Far too many are doing this.

The Padres take a commanding 1-0 lead on the Nola single.

Why did DeJong go home? Great throw to nail Bell, but I was thinking they could get the double play? Maybe not.

First two Cards batters in the 3rd K flailing at pitches not close.

Make it all three batters. This is irritating because before most of these pitches you know Snell is not going to throw it anywhere close. So why do the Cards hitters not know this? Maybe they should give these guys a take sign on 1-2 (haha) until they show they can contain themselves just a tad.

Carter, I think it was around that same time late in the 1964 season rumors about Leo Durocher being the next Manager started up. (It turned out Busch actually had talked to Durocher about it.) I very clearly remember the grown ups talking about how Keane was as good as gone and Leo would be skipper the next year. The old timers, including my grandpa and his brother, remembered Durocher from his playing days with the gas house gang in St. Louis.

I realize that Dickerson has hit better than some others of late, but the guy with the .332 OPS vs lefties probably shouldn’t be starting against a lefty. That would seem to be a lineup failure.

Its past my bed time. This is another game that seems like deja vu all over again, but good luck.

One sure way to bring this team out of there hitting slump is to insert Paul Dejong into the starting lineup! Lol!

I’m not sure how the Cards get a hit off Snell tonight. Thankfully he’s not very efficient so he may only go 6 innings. Will have to get something going off the Padres pen. Maybe they need to try a few bunts.

That’s right, but Leo had a partner in coup…Branch Ricky. Their plan of course was to replace Johnny and Bing after the ’64 season. Gussie was exited! He knew of the popularity of those two ex-Cardinal notables and the positive fan reaction.

But the team put a massive wrench in the plan…

Snell pitching mostly sliders or fastballs. Fastballs mud 90 waist High edge of zone and sliders at bottom of zone. Most dropping below at around 90. Lot of drop in his slider. We’re swinging like we want to get it over with. Gonna be out there for a week. Might as well slow down a little and try to hit a couple.

Have the Cards really gone 23 straight innings now without scoring a run?

Now? As in right now? Yes, it’s been 23 innings now.

    28 straight scoreless innings now.
