I didn’t know exactly where to drop this so I put it here. For all the Edman fans who have to defend a few of the non-members of the Eddie fan club, (you know who the major suspect is) here is some ammo for the defense.

    Blake Newberry…. VLB.

If you feel you don’t have to defend yourself from those that want to trade away or underrate Edamn read it anyway… its a good piece. And those that doubt Eddie’s value to this team you need to read this.

I don’t doubt Edman value at all. But I am not a chartered member of his fan club. I like Edman and understand and appreciate his value to the team. That doesn’t mean I have to like him above any other Cardinal. I like other players on the team more than him. So how is that wrong?

Oliver…. not wrong at all. I like other Cardinals also and I don’t put Edman ahead of the most productive players on the team…. just saying he’s up among some of the best overall. The comment was meant to educate the naysayers.

Another day on the calendar checked off last night with the Brewers not gaining any ground.

Eddie is my favorite Cardinal by a lot and the 3rd most valuable Cardinal this year behind Goldy and Arenado. i read that article yesterday and meant to post it.

Awesome for you GameCard, he is not close to being my favorite cardinal but he is a key and valuable member of team. He just doesn’t do it for me.

At one time, up until about his second season in the Big Leagues, I’d read a few articles related to Eddie simply to get some info on his track record during his amatuer and minor league career, but I no longer do that. Now, I just watch him play. Category numbers, WAR ratings, and whatever else they use to evaluate players, don’t really paint a clear picture of the value of a ballplayer of his sort. Obviously, he’s not a guy like Pujols or Aaron, who you can gaze in amazement at the long columns of numbers on a site like baseball reference and wonder how in the heck a mortal human being can achieve those sorts of totals. To me, Eddie’s simply a guy who man’s up at the position he’s needed and then does everything right. You can’t really expect more out of a ballplayer. I’m also entirely convinced that whether he remains a Redbird or not, he’s going to play on and contribute to a ballclub that wins a WS championship before he’s done.

We lucked out last night as the Brewers pen blew the game against the Mets. We can’t score any runs for some reason either. Unless things change in a hurry this NL Central race is going to the wire. We desperately need to win a game in San Diego and Los Angeles. But thats not going to be easy. And with Milwaukee finishing the season with seven straight home games against Miami and Arizona, well, needless to say they are in the drivers seat.

Time to go see my hot Nurse Practitioner. Oh, and by the way, Front Row Amy was in attendance at Milwaukee last night!

Well now that our Cardinals have given themselves 3 days off at the plate maybe somebody will remember how to hit a baseball again. Winning the central division by walking in backwards doesn’t do it for me. I remember a West Coast series a few years ago Where we got bombed by San Francisco first and then totally swept by the Dodgers. Was a time of a horrible Ozuna slump. Before Goldy I believe. As Ozuna went the Cardinals went. My point being a good team doesn’t count on just one guy. Step- pull up your Nike underwear and hit the dang ball. Sheesh man get it together.
Din-din will be grilled cheese sandwiches and home made french fries. Had Din-din for breakfast today.

Have the Cards really gone 23 straight innings now without scoring a run?

If the Brewers don’t qualify for the post-season, I think Craig Counsell may be placed in the soup line and if the Yankees don’t win the WS, Boone’s a goner. Cora’s gone in Boston and Reinsdorf will be spared having to fire TLR and will simply say he’s letting TLR step aside due to his heart condition. I’d say AL MOY is a lock for O’s manager Brandon Hyde, and our old friend Dusty’s going to have a good chance to finally manage a team to a WS championship. I like Houston to win another AL pennant. NL MOY is a tough one, but I’d say that after losing Freddie Freeman, Snitker has a decent chance, with the other two front-runners being Showalter and our own Ollie Marmol. Interim Philly manager Rob Thomson has a sliver of a chance. Managing a Big League ballclub is a tough out and the axes are being sharpened as I key this in…

Knizner scored in the 9th and we’ve played two 9 innings games since.

Game 2 on Saturday is when Knizner scored in the 11th inning.

It was game 1 on Saturday that the Cardinals scored in the third inning.

Mets and Brewers playing this afternoon at County Stadium. We will know going into tonight’s game what our status is. More than likely we will need a win to stay 8.5 games ahead of Milwaukee. It’s almost a sure bet that it will indeed only be a 7.5 game lead after close of business tonight.

Certainly there’s more repetition (lower risk) and rate of production (higher value) in Edman’s resume now than there was for Piscotty, Wong, or DeJong at the time of their contract signings . By a long shot.

Today’s game thread baseball trivia questions…Brought to you live by our special brand of Jay Johnstone’s fireproof asbestos socks…

    1. Former Cardinal Joel Youngblood has the distiction of being the only player in Big League history to have ever recorded two hits on the same day with two different teams in two different cities. What’s almost as interesting, is that these two hits were allowed by two pitchers who are now members of the Hall of Fame. Who are these two HOF pitchers?

    2. There are 9 players who have hit more than 600 HR’s in their career. Only one of those 9 players was never awarded an MVP. Who is that player?

Oh, I almost forgot…if you look it up prior to submitting an answer, you’ll be at risk of wearing the socks until your ex-wife gets around to doing your laundry…

The Brewers have about as good of shot at winning the NLC as DeJong does winning NL MVP.

They do still have a shot at the final wild card spot though, which incidentally, would mean a visit to St. Louis for the playoffs.

Maybe you didn’t stay up for the end, but if you did, how can you forget the great serpentine skills of Knizner? 😉

It reminded me of Peter Faulk and Alan Arkin in their In-Laws serpentine scene. That was hilarious.
