You can run to the outside of the line, but not inside like that.

There is NO running lane from 3rd to home like there is from home to 1st. The Reds announcer, Chris Welsh, said it was a perfectly legal play. Knizner did NOT intentionally interfere, he just ran a little inside the line. Which, as Chris Welsh said, is a perfectly legal thing to do. It’s called Baserunning 101.

The Reds, unfortunately for them, had no argument on the play.

BikeMike…Maybe so, but not for long. Extras seem to end pretty quick. I’m grateful it’s nonexistent in the postseason.

You can do that on the 3rd base line…everybody rounds 3rd out of bounds…or inbounds?

The base path is determined by the runners straight line when going to the base. When leading off 3rd you always lead off in found territory. The “base path” is going to be the outside of the plate, foul territory. Knizner saw the 3B field it and immediately went inside to make the throw hard. Smart by Knizner, but he should have been out.

I am not so sure on that, but the umps did not overturn it so I guess that is how it works. Seems like if you interfere with a throw like that when you are inside the line it would be an out.

I don’t think there was any way that the 3B or HPU was going to rule that Knizner was out the base path and call him out. Especially with 45,000 fans on their feet and reaching for their car keys.

Wasn’t able to watch hardly at all, took grandson to park, then fed him, gave him bath, watched Pinocchio, grand evening. But did see play on replay. I think it was obvious interference on kizners part. He went from outside to inside once he saw where fielder was. Believe me, if it was the reds doing it, we would have a bunch of mad cardinal fans. I don’t think just because you start out in foul territory you have to stay out there but you can’t intentionally weave into the throw which is what kizner did. It’s probably not reviewable, up to the ump judgement which is crazy, should be reviewable cause the video shows the crime. But it is what it is.

Eddie was 6 for 10 in the double-hitter today.

Will have to look it up. Had a similar discussion on here a couple years ago on the 1st base running lane which is marked. Looked to me like the umps had enough baseball tonight and were ready to go home- or the hotel. Whatever it was an ugly game. Our pitching that good or our hitting that bad? Kinda disappointing to me to watch at times. The Knizner move is probably taught that way I’m guessing.
Anyway it’s a winner but would be great to see some hits tomorrow.
    Go Cardinals!

If a runner can run on the grass, so be it. It could make for some interesting plays. Be we can’t cry when it is the other team that benefits.

I guess Hudson, the extra man for the double header, goes back off the active roster until his turn in the rotation comes around, at which time a roster move will happen.

If it is legal to send someone else down, I’d expect it to be JoJo Romero.

Not sure of the do’s and don’ts with the extra doubleheader player.

Hudson has to go back down because he has not completed his required 15 days.

Q with a GmSc of 84, his best of 2022.

With the addition of Matz to the 28man, we now have four lefties in the pen and two in the rotation.

Thompson now has 23.1 reliever IP, facing 90 batters. He has allowed a batters 27 ops+, with a WHIP under one (0.943).
