#2 is not Smoltz. The correct answer is not an extremely well known pitcher really
Yeah I’m not going to know #2 than at all my knowledge of a lot of this stuff is early to mid 90’s, gets a lot better late 90’s to early 2000’s through today.
I’m stumped on 1td’s questions. Chipper Jones came to mind at first because he was such a Mets nemesis, but no way he hit that many in NY.
I thinking its got to be some combination of HRs against Yankees/Dodgers/Giants when they were all in NY.
EuroDandy…I couldn’t stand it after missing with Carroll, so I looked it up…Haha! Obviously, I won’t give away the answer. That’s a tough one! I had completely even forgotten his name until I saw it.
EuroDandy…It’s most definitely a combo and he was indeed a nemesis for two of those teams for a looong time. That oughta’ give it away.
1td, I remember him pretty well because announcers use to tout it a lot in games when he’d come to bat. They’d say “this is a pitcher you have to be careful with, you know he hit 2 grand slams in one game.”
And I did check before I posted the question, his record still stands.

Musial? I must admit my pre 68 knowledge is not the greatest. I remember a lot more of what I see than what I read about.
EuroDandy…WINNER! Yep, Stan The Man Musial had a pretty good career against all foes, however he seemed to have a special affinity for terrorizing both of the Cardinal’s NL rival Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Giants as attested to by those 86 taters he ripped in the Big Apple. Musial was a little bit before my time too, but I like to think I would have guessed that one.
Quintana should make it through 6 tonight. He’s at 48 pitches with two outs in the 5th. Need runs though.
EuroDandy…No, not Gibby, but he squared up against the right answer many times in some outstanding pitching battles. I was in attendance for one of them as an 11 year old boy.

Even though this guy’s W/L record is 4-12 with an ERA well north of 5.00, he’s a big strong and young 23 yr. old RHP who’s listed at ‘6-5″ 230 lbs. Now, I’m in no way drawing comparisons with Greg Maddux, but when he broke into the Big Leagues with the Cubs, I distinctly recall that the Redbirds used to be his brains out in ’87, which was a year in which Maddux ended with a W/L record of 6-14 with an ERA of 5.61. What I’m driving at, is that you can never really tell how young talent will develop. It’s obvious to me that Greene’s got a chance to develop into a premier Big League pitcher.
I actually saw Clonginger pitch in person in Atlanta as a kid in1966, maybe 2 or 3 starts after the two slams game. My dad and uncle took me and my cousin to the game. The Braves played the Phillies, who had former Cardinals Bill White and Dick Groat in their infield.
Clonginger started against Chris Short. My cousin was telling about how “this pitcher hit two grand slams in one game!”
