And what does that have to do with today’s game? Gorman isn’t even playing.
Regarding DeJong, I just shared the rule. Of course, he would not declare FA and give up his guaranteed salary. However, the point I was trying to explain is why he can’t just be sent down any more. The Cards lost that right by bringing him back from Memphis when they did. His service time was right on the line then.
O’Neill his first 300 career PA’s had a 37% K%. Gorman is at 33%.
Over time O’Neill has worked it down to 26.5% this season. Gorman following the same trend wouldn’t surprise me.
Fabulous comeback last night. Was surprised Martinez did not get someone warming up after the walk to O’Neill. Usually I think managers “over” manage and make too many pitching changes. But last night it was obvious Finnegan was struggling, and Martinez did not have a back up plan.

I am more low key on Albert starting. The stats show that pitcher is better against righties, but that does mot mean Albert is an automatic out against him today. The club is way up in the Central, with little chance to move to a two seed. Give the fans a chance to see Albert play in the game his buddy and teammate set a record. I like it.
And a comment on Woodford. He again does the job and kept the Nats from adding on more runs.
Woody throws strikes and gets a lot of ground balls. Announcers and fans get all ga-ga over 100mph pitches and strikeouts, but the ground ball is often a better weapon as it is easier on the arm, and can get you the double-play.
I’m always perplexed by the notion of doing anything possible to shorten the time it takes to play a game of baseball. To me, the longer a game is contested can only serve to intensify the excitement and anticipation. I like extra cheese and toppings on my pizza, but not nearly as much as I like extra innings and a 7th game. In my estimation, hurrying through the action offered up by a game of baseball is as bad a hurrying through a perfect night with a beautiful woman.

Yes Gorman struck out 3 times yes 3 times!!! Look at his prior game. If you point the bad over and over again try doing the good as infrequently as it may be.

Well, the Cards get one on a Goldy single but that’s it. The Nats have tied it in the top of the second with two doubles. Albert’s first plate appearance is coming up. This Gray fellow has barely touched the zone so far, but the Cards have swung at a lot of bad pitches.

I would say great walk in his first PA by Burly, but not a single one of those pitches were close. Congrats on his first time on base though, hopefully the first of a lot to come!
The double down the RF line by the Nats, he threw a great ball into second, just didn’t have a chance to get him.
Weird at bat by Goldy. He had three pitches middle-middle…took the first two and whiffed on the third. That was practically batting practice.
So Edman and Goldy strike out back to back! Unacceptable….off with their heads. How could they with men on base. We may lose this game and the Brewers will be on our tale in no time.
Really neat to see that Yadi dinger! Going well today. Good to see us scoring runs early. DeLusio is really fast. Fast as Bader?
