6:08 p.m.
RHP Adam Wainwright (9-9, 3.11) vs. RHP Jake Odorizzi (5-5, 3.95)
ESPN // KMOX // WIJRAugust 28, 2022 at 9:47 am #198001You’d have to figure out of 7 games vs these Braves in 2022, the Cards would be good for at least one decisive victory. Heck, the Angels blasted the Jays 12-0 the other night ……in Toronto. Well tonight is our last opportunity, unless we square off against Atlanta in post season play. And who better than Waino pitching at home to let these Braves know that they do not own us? I think our boys are going to paste these guys but good tonight…… I’ll call it 8-2 Birds with the esteemed GameCard’s Tommy Edman coming up big.
August 28, 2022 at 11:39 am #198002The Braves might still be smarting from that 10 run 1st inning we laid on them in the 2019 NLDS. That one is still hard to explain.
Din-din today is a Ribeye steak in the air fryer, covered with olive oil, A1 sauce, and Montreal steak seasoning. Along with a couple of ears of Aces High Sweet Corn and a Pepsi. Dessert will be a piece of chocolate cake from the bakery.

August 28, 2022 at 12:00 pm #198003Although I reside in the StL. area and should probably be content to have access to a TV broadcast for virtually every Cardinal game, I’m never happy when ESPN, FOX and especially these no good “streaming” son’s a guns, when they grab the opportunity to hi-jack a Redbird broadcast. I often hear petty complaints from local fans in the area regarding Danny M. Brad T. and Jimmmy E. Most of the critisism consists of, “they talk too much” or, “they’re “blatant homers.” Well, I happen to be a “homer” and I like the guys calling the action to be on my side. Do they sometimes annoy me? Sure, but I guarantee you can do a whole lot worse than the local Redbird broadcasters. And oh, one more thing…There’s not too many things as silly as wasting the nice sunshine and playing a baseball game on a Sunday night…It’s a genuine sacrilege!
August 28, 2022 at 12:03 pm #198004Sweet…..Rat jazzing his ribeye up tonight with some healthy olive oil, A-1 sauce and Canadian seasoning. I’m not sure what’s on tap for din-din tonight, but for lunch it’ll be the best hot dogs on the planet (Applegate). One on a bun smothered in onions, mustard and kraut and then 2 other Applegate dogs eaten without any accompaniments whatsoever. Also coming to the plate will be potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans and 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies. Brewers-Cubs game coming up in about an hour……seems oh so strange rooting for the north siders.
Great thoughts on the telecasts, TD! I think Jimmy E. offers extremely interesting insights.
August 28, 2022 at 12:09 pm #198005Ratsbuddy…Haha! Yeah, that visitor half of the 1st in Atl. was a genuine preempted barrage. The only time I can remember a look that was similar to those of attending Braves fans was the shell shocked thousand yard stare of Ron Roenecke during the 6th game of the ’11 NLCS.
August 28, 2022 at 12:22 pm #198006Pugs…I can’t think of too many things as tasty and satisfying as a hot dog at a ballgame. I have a theory, however deluded it may be, that if you go to a ballgame and don’t have at least one hot dog, you never really went to the ballgame and only imagined doing so…And oh, glad to see you’re going to enjoy your dog with mustard! Anyone who would dare put ketchup on a perfectly good hot dog is without question lending themselves to participating in a genuine aforementioned sacrilege!
August 28, 2022 at 12:38 pm #198007Another thing that annoys me when a Redbird broadcast is hi-jacked by a national network is that I don’t get any post-game interviews or coverage. I always look forward to hearing from the Redbird manager and his ballplayers in the clubhouse after the game on the local broadcast and I feel as though I’ve been cheated when that’s not made available. I wonder if I have any legal recourse regarding actual and punitive damages…Anyone know a good civil attorney?
August 28, 2022 at 12:54 pm #198008You guys were talking about hot dogs so I’m going to throw my opinion in, dogs at Wrigley Field are typically awful (but I always get one regardless). Guaranteed Rate, AT&T and Miller Park have great food on the other hand. The brats at Miller Park are second to none.
August 28, 2022 at 1:02 pm #198009Don’t know if the Redbirds have ever faced him, but I see tonight’s SP for Atl. came over from the Astros at this season’s trade deadline. Also see that he suffered a leg injury at the beginning of the season while he was still an Astro that sidelined him for about 6 weeks. I haven’t checked, but I’m pretty sure the handicapper odds have the Braves as underdogs with him opposing Wainwright in tonight’s game. At any rate, the odds are about as important as this comment. Redbirds still have to play a game of baseball in order to win it.
August 28, 2022 at 1:12 pm #198010CardsinChiT…I would have guessed that the brats anywhere in Wisc. are pretty good. Mrs. 1TD has a good source for brats at a place here in StL. She also prepares batches of salsiccia right here at home in which she adds plenty of fennel. Pretty good stuff.
Edit; This is turning into the cooking show. Haha!
August 28, 2022 at 1:16 pm #198011Opened my freezer this morning and guess whats the only meat left? Brats!! It must mean something! Maybe we’re gonna win again tonight! The game last night was a real cliff hanger. Super suspenseful finish. Better than watching a movie! Why we love the game!
I’ll see it on ESPN here.Need some better hitting tonight from just about everybody.
Go Cardinals!August 28, 2022 at 1:29 pm #198012Obviously the 2 SP’s acquired at the deadline are looking like real nice additions, but Sosa for JoJo is also beginning to look like a genuine bargain at this juncture.
August 28, 2022 at 1:35 pm #198013Wooster…Glad you found those brats! Get those things thawed and grilled before the game. The only thing bad about finding something good in the freezer is having to wait for it to thaw when you’re hungry…Haha!
August 28, 2022 at 1:52 pm #198014I often hear petty complaints from local fans in the area regarding Danny M. Brad T. and Jimmmy E.
I don’t hate Dan. But what I call “forced enthusiasm” really annoys me. He just sounds like he’s trying way to hard to be enthusiastic when there’s no need. I also don’t care about Pujols nostalgia. I want the best team, that has included Pujols play in the 2nd half. But I’m tired of listening to Dan constantly talk about him and say they should force him in games when he’s a situational player at this point. There are broadcasters I enjoy listening to more, but there are WAY worse out there. Just watch one of those Apple broadcasts and you’ll appreciate Dan a lot more.
Brad gets annoying sometimes because he never shuts up and sounds like he’s hopped up on amphetamines. When he’s just going with the flow and talking when needed, he’s not terrible.
Jim is just dry. I don’t think he throughly enjoys broadcasting, but he’s definitely knowledgeable and still has a connection with the players for insight.
I don’t like the Cardinals on ESPN, but whatever, guess that’s what we’ve got. The Fox broadcast yesterday wasn’t bad. I don’t know who the main broadcaster was, but thought he was OK and I really like Smoltz on the color.August 28, 2022 at 1:55 pm #198015I never like Sunday night games, and our club seems to wind up the chosen whipping boys quite often. Makes sense as the game should be one that features a couple of teams the casual fan would want to see, and we are usually competitive.
Good balanced comments about the St. Louis announcers 1TD. Some guys complain about them a lot, and they do mess up now and then or get off topic and try to be comics a little too often at times. But I always say, if my career was something I did in front of thousands of people every work day, I am sure I would hear about how much better the latest financial spreadsheet could have been, or how I could have gotten my report in an hour earlier if I had not been flirting with the new admin so long.
Oh, and hot dogs at the ball game? A definite yes! I do not think I have been to a game where a hot dog and beer have not been the featured fare, at least not since before I was 21 on the latter. I would add that you have not really seen a game without having a beer. It’s un-American, although I do understand if you have had trouble controlling your alcohol intake and your lifestyle has changed. But for us weekend warrior beer consumers, it is a must have at a game.
Would be real nice to take a series from this solid Braves outfit.

jj-cf-stlParticipantCardinal lineup last night was impressive. 6 runs scored using 26 outs and a 5/6 BB/K.
On only a .269 BAbip, the boys managed a slash line of
.265 / .405 / .500 / .905
an ISO of .235 and a 163 wRC+, overcoming an ERA allowed of 5.00
This lineup never quits.
August 28, 2022 at 2:07 pm #198017Don’t know if the Redbirds have ever faced him, but I see tonight’s SP for Atl
Cardianls have faced him. Not since 2018 when he was with Minnesota and them also in 2014 and 2017 when he was with TB.
I find it interesting it’s the one who grew up in the St. Louis area a fan of the Cardinals starting for the Braves and the one who grew up in Georgia rooting for the Braves starting for the Cardianls.
August 28, 2022 at 2:20 pm #198018Cardinal lineup last night was impressive. 6 runs scored using 26 outs and a 5/6 BB/K.
Nootbaar, Donovan, Goldschmidt, Arenado are absolute musts to have in the lineup EVERY DAY at this point.
The pen is what I was most impressed with last night. 4 ip, 2 h, 0 BB, 7 k. Hicks throwing strikes is HUGE. If the SP can keep them in games, like they have since the deadline, and the pen can step it up they will win games. Even last night Montgomery wasn’t as sharp as he’d been, but also had some soft hit balls that found holes, but it was enough to keep it close and the pen was huge in the win. Unlike Friday when Quintana wasn’t sharp, but again kept it close, and then Pallante and Stratton were OK, but gave up runs, and then Cabrera imploded and. If the pen Friday, does what it did Saturday who knows how that game goes.
August 28, 2022 at 2:32 pm #198019Get those brats thawed out! Funny I’m reading this now because I just set out a couple of steaks from the freezer! Going to throw them on the grill around 5:30 and have a fancy “din-din” just in time for the game.
August 28, 2022 at 2:46 pm #198020Pugsley averred: Rat jazzing his ribeye up tonight with some healthy olive oil
Olive oil is healthy only when its not heated. Cooking with it destroys it’s goodness, reducing it to something akin to motor oil.
Why do you think the expensive brands come in dark bottles like vintage wines? EVEN LIGHT destroys delicate nutrients.EVOO is for salads and other cold dishes. Sautee with butter or even lard, oils that stand up to heat, THEN drizzle olive oil on the dish for it’s flavor.
With the exception of Card in France I’m horrified by the the immune system damage you old guys are doing to yourselves.
August 28, 2022 at 2:52 pm #198022I hate Sunday night games. Period.
Din-din tonight was trout, wild rice and snap beans.
Rah Cardinals!

You need to learn to live a little, Carter. Almost every health nut, vegetarian, vegan type I’ve crossed paths with over the years, are not happy people. Put down the beet juice and stuffed yams and hoist up a glass of the Wild Turkey with your roast beef sandwich and I promise you one thing, Carter……your stress level will plummet and your happiness will blossom.
August 28, 2022 at 4:09 pm #198024
jj-cf-stlParticipantPDJ and O’Neill not starting, Dickerson in LF, Donovan DH and you already know who is catching Wainwright.
August 28, 2022 at 4:16 pm #198025Pugs…beet juice!!? I’m having a ice cold mid-afternoon Coors as I type. Vegan??! I did have an avocado/tomato/spinach salad for lunch, but for dinner It’s my hearty home made beef stew, heavy on the beef.
Wild Turkey?!! I prefer white rum with Lipton’s tea…in moderation. We can all eat bad food occasionally, but to LIVE on it is just damn foolish.
Stress!?? Kids are grown and out of the house and I’m divorced! The only stress I ever feel is in the 9th inning of a one run game, and that dissipates pretty quickly.
