I’ll take two of these five games and be happy. Unless a minor miracle occurs and the Brewers sweep the Dodgers. Or perhaps win two of three at Dodger Stadium. Then I will not be happy. And neither will Whitey Herdog. We can’t be having that now.

BikeMike…Yep, I thought about the ’67 Redbirds as well and Red can be a bit confusing because unlike Durocher and Southworth, Schoendienst was inducted as a player. It’s nice to be retired and have all this free time to look this great baseball stuff up, eh? HaHa! Hey man, I still have my old hard bound copy of the 1973 Baseball Encyclopedia. That year’s edition has Aaron with a career 713 HR’s and still one shy of the Babe as Hank wouldn’t have his chance at the record until the following season. As you know, in those days (when cave men still existed) if you wanted to check on something, you had to flip through pages to look all these guys up. Ain’t the internet great? Haha!

Ratsbuddy…At 29-30, the Redbirds are currently the only divison leader in the Big Leagues to feature a road W/L record below .500, so I’d be satisfied with taking 3 of 5 at Wrigley to even out the W/L on the road at 32-32 before returning home to face the Braves. However, I’m getting a bit greedy during this 7 game winning streak and want it to extend to an even dozen before taking on Atlanta and demonstrating to the Braves that the Cardinals are an entirely different ballclub than the last time the two teams met.

Awesome scorecard post, Carter. Love that nostalgic stuff!

A random thought – took a break from work and looked up Randy Arozarena’s and Adolis Garcia’s WAR. Both are right at 6 with their clubs since leaving our organization.

So that is 12 wins over the last few seasons we traded away without anything back yet. Did not even check Alcantara, but we did get something for him in a couple of years of Ozuna before his behavior went off the deep end. If Liberatore amounts to anything we will chip away some, but the gap could widen even more if Arozarena is better from here on than Libby.

Kind of a negative post amidst this good stretch. To put a positive spin, it makes you even more impressed with our scouting group. You have those guys and others like the guy we will be facing this week (Wisdom), Luke Voit, Zac Gallen, and the talent on the current roster. Not too mention what it took to bring in the likes of Goldschmidt and Arenado.

GameCard is smiling looking at that lineup. The rest of us are going, “Should DeJong really be in the lineup, even against a lefty? And if so, can we find a 10th spot in the order to have him hit in.”

It is the line-up that I expected against a lefty but not the order. Any line-up without Eddie is the wrong line-up IMO. If DeJong doesn’t hit tonight he probably won’t start in tomorrow’s 1st game of the doubleheader.

Does it logically make any sense at all to have Pujols and Goldy respectively at 1B and DH? The Redbird mgr. burned Arenado’s glove yesterday and it may have allowed AZ. to score a run as the result of an E-5. I don’t mean to complain because Marmol’s certainly been shooting 7’s, but placing any GG in the DH slot simply portends a question mark.

I think it is just a way to give Goldy at least a 1/2 day off TD. Same as Arenado yesterday. Hopefully Albert can hold his own at 1B tonight.

gscottar…Yeah, I get that and both Albert and Donovan are certainly a bit better than servicable at both 1B and 3B, but the wide gap in comparison to Nado and Goldy with the glove is so glaring that it’s near to being a liability. I could understand if a guy was a bit skinned up, but I haven’t heard anything and I’m pretty sure Goldy wouldn’t mind manning up at his 1B domain for tonight’s ballgame.

With the DH tomorrow, I can see letting Goldy take some defense time off. The risk of losing a game because of it is low. The reward of having a more rested Goldy might offset that to a wash, or maybe even a minimal net plus.

I see Eddie’s back slotted in at lead-off tonight. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that he had a pretty nice 3 or 4 game weekend series at Wrigley back in the final month or so of the ’19 season as he was just beginning to come into his own as a Redbird. Seems I also remember a couple of other series that he was a pain in the backside for the Cubs at Wrigley. I’m not too adept at looking up stats for players vs. particular teams at venues, but I’d be interested to know if my memory serves rightly if no other reason being that Marmol has Edman leading off in tonight’s ballgame.

gscottar…Yeah, I thought about the day-night DH and I guess it doesn’t make any difference, but I thought that if he wasn’t going to man up at 1B, it would have been in one of those two games and not in tonight’s opener. I know, I know…I’m picking at nits.

Let’s all hope that Molina doesn’t forget to slip into his cleats in place of those Air Jordan Hi-Tops he’s been wearing over the weekend…

This is a series where the silly runner at second to start an extra inning is probably a good thing. The last outcome you want is for a game to drag out over a lot of innings. In fact, the 7 inning double-header games would be even better.

But as Tim McCarver says, you gotta man up because “This is the big leagues”.

I wonder why Helsley was placed on the RL? I was under the impression he’d be available to work tonight.

gscottar…Please, no make believe, fairy tale baserunners. And like Timmy Mac says, in the Big Leagues, you play a hard 9.

For your scorecards, gentlemen, CiF enjoyed a spinach and Boursin quiche with a salad this evening and is now slipping off to bed with the fervent hope that he will have the pleasure of reading about our Redbirds 70th win of the season in the morning.

    Rah Cardinals!
