I guess it’s getting to be crunch time, and Schildt will employ relievers on back to back games.
September 13, 2020 at 3:44 pm #139947Remember there are 14 innings to cover tomorrow… and your starters are Kim straight off the IL and Ponce, not known for going more than four or five at most.
September 13, 2020 at 3:46 pm #139948bccran, I’ve never seen Sosa play anywhere other than the infield, but what has been happening in Springfield this summer is anyone’s guess.
September 13, 2020 at 3:57 pm #139949
jj-cf-stlParticipantwith Edman getting so much outfield time, Sosa as backup SS would be a nice backfill
September 13, 2020 at 3:57 pm #139950
stlcard25ParticipantThe Cards’ perfect record when scoring 5 runs or more may be in jeopardy today. Gotta keep the offense going.

ParticipantWhat the heck, are these guys not stretching out in the bullpen. Its getting rediculous.
September 13, 2020 at 4:05 pm #139952May be another groin injury, this time with Gant. Really bad timing.
September 13, 2020 at 4:09 pm #1399531982 willie
ParticipantThis is why in my mind, you cant just keep cycling through pitchers. Reyes should have been left in there to get through the inning. Managing like every game is a playoff game isnt good.

How many pitchers are going to wind up on the IL before all of this is said and done? The pitching staff is majorly screwed losing Gant and Gallegos this week.
September 13, 2020 at 4:12 pm #139955The #stlcards currently have eight pitchers on the IL, four of whom are out for the season. Kim comes off tomorrow, but will Gant go on?

stlcard25ParticipantSure would be nice to have the runs wasted on the missed ball in the OF earlier. Looking like the Cards will have to outslug the Reds if their perfect record adoring 5+ is going to continue. Miller has been awful since coming in.
September 13, 2020 at 4:16 pm #1399571982 willie
ParticipantFrom the look of what i saw, gant is more than likely done.
September 13, 2020 at 4:18 pm #139958
jj-cf-stlParticipantSo our current closer is arguably Miller, who is issuing free passes, a wild pitch and loud outs. I guess “depth” was a nice term while it lasted.
Someone give Hicks a call
September 13, 2020 at 4:18 pm #139959I should have also noted that before this, someone would have needed to be sent down to make room for Kim (and Ponce) tomorrow. Instead it could be Gant going to the IL and the pen would have one fewer arm heading into a very, busy stretch. Not good no matter now one looks at it.

September 13, 2020 at 4:22 pm #139960Twitter rumor is it might be his groin which begs the question what the hell is happening with the pitchers throwing out their groins.
September 13, 2020 at 4:25 pm #139961Well our vaunted bullpen blows a gasket today.
Blows the lead.
Another guy gets hurt.
No fresh arms for the doubleheader tomorrow.Just another day in 2020.
September 13, 2020 at 4:25 pm #139962
jj-cf-stlParticipantDouble gone bad. That’s a top 10 CF’r this season
September 13, 2020 at 4:26 pm #139963
stlcard25ParticipantThis team is screwed. Better hope that the starters can somehow go 6 innings in all the DH games coming up or the offense is going to need to score 8+ runs every game.
September 13, 2020 at 4:28 pm #139964I blame Dr. George Paletta! (Is that how it is done, Twitter?) 😉
September 13, 2020 at 4:38 pm #139965Right groin for Gant. Day to day. Of course, no IL move would be disclosed until tomorrow, anyway…
September 13, 2020 at 4:39 pm #139966Rumors confirmed. MRI will be done to determine seriousness.
John Gant was removed due to right groin discomfort, day to day #stlcards

ParticipantCrazy, Crazy “season”.
September 13, 2020 at 4:43 pm #139968Here is another possible scenario. Replace Dean with a pitcher and go with 16 arms (17 for DH) and just 12 position players. What do folks think of this idea, recognizing that nine of the 12 position players have to play in every game?
September 13, 2020 at 4:44 pm #139969bccran
ParticipantGood idea.
