Jack can’t seem to get the Cubs to bite on the slider. And now he gets squeezed by the ump. Gonna be hard to get out of this one unscathed. He gets it to 3-2 after Goldy just barely missed catching the foul ball. Jake Woodford is getting ready. Might be a short night for our beloved ace. This could kill the bullpen.
Gotta think that Jack is done for the night if he can’t get Contreras out.

At this pace if we get 4 solid frames out of Jack tonight, I’ll be happy. As I see these cubbies fouling off ball after ball after ball, how valuable would a guy be if he was an expert at just fouling off a bunch of pitches…ah! Contreras plates two with a solid single to center.
I can’t imagine how this is not a 1 inning outing at max for Flaherty. Can’t take the chance on his arm.
I was gonna post “just walk or hit Contreras”. Give up one. He is CHC bright spot going to RF this year. Payback for drilling Matt Holiday & Piscotty right off DL.
Not the way you want your ace to start things off in this all important 5 game series. But looking at a possible bright side, they only score a deuce. Let’s come right back at them with 4-5 runs and the mo shifts right back our way.

Carlson will hit (and run, catch, throw) etc. Bader has been given 1000 AB or so? Carp is the worst runner, 1B, arm, in MLB history and they keep giving him starts. Give Carlson a chance. Pure swing, looks good at entire game.

Welcome, S_L. As someone who really likes Carpenter, I may not agree with all your assessments, but I do agree that it’s time for him to sit.
O’Neill gets fooled on the big floating curve that was right there to hit. You don’t get many chances at fat pitches from Darvish. Gotta take advantage.

It’s ok, Pugs. We’ll always have Los Angeles. He should be kept around just in case we end up facing Kershaw in October.
