On a good note the Reds scored twice in the last of the 7th off of Kimbrel and won the nightcap 6-5. There was a benches clearing incident that saw Votto, Winker, and Bell get ejected in about 5 seconds.

Okay, new game so new gripe. I have learned to hate babies, dogs, pretty women and ugly men. Why? Because they clutter up the background of my baseball games. Yesterday Fox even added moving robot fans during some of their shots of the bleachers. In other words, take the money for the Cardboard Fans and donate it to Cardinal Care but take those cutouts behind home plate and put them in the seats that are not facing a camera. The sound doesn’t bother me but those cutouts get awful boring. It is beginning to look like the Alternate Site teams are just another set of minor leaguers to be used at will for rotating groups of pitchers and occasional position players. Well this was a sports filled weekend. I broke my vow and watched two NOOSECAR events, one Indy car race and caught the start of the Tour de France. TIVOs are great tools for the sports minded and commercial haters.

Edman to the outfield, Bader and O’Neill sit.

This team looks tired to me, both physically and mentally. The compressed schedule seems to be grinding them into the ground. The other teams aren’t going to feel sorry for us though. Someone needs to step up and do something.

Looks like GameCard has finally been vindicated… Tommy Edman is the starting left fielder.

I’m gonna get fried for saying this (and rightfully so) but I think this DH (Designated Hitter) thing is growing on me. BUT perhaps it is because we have young position players doing it and not some over-the-hill dinosaur. Another thing I am liking but I have a lot of company on this one. 7 Inning Double Headers. One set of them almost seems to go quicker than one 9 inning affair. Easier on pitchers overall too is my guess.

Question of the Day: When will Yadier Molina drop from exhaustion and we find ourself with a catcher who hasn’t had a game in over a month. Is Wieters even back from his bum toe? Maybe Knizner could be used as a DH sometime and then he can get his uniform dirty. I had a feeling that we were going to lose that game when Yadi showed up at 3B with one out. Woulda had to have been a wallbanger to get his swift body moved across the plate.

If Edman is our starting outfielder, we’re in trouble.

MM3, I am liking the DH and 7 inning doubleheaders also. Hopefully they are both here to stay.

I am still not sold on the 3 batter minimum for relievers and putting a runner on second during extra innings.

As for Yadi, I agree he should not play everyday. This issue predates Shildt though. It has been an issue for quite sometime. Wieters shouldn’t even be on the roster. Knizer should be the backup and he should start once or twice a week.

Shame on you MM3 for your DH betrayal. As regards Molina, he should sit for a day or two anyway while he gets his head screwed back on from last night.

“Knizner should be the backup and he should start once or twice a week.”

Thank you. Yadi is still a FA-to-be and seeing Knizner get playing time is important to our offseason decisions.

gscottar we do think alike on the 3 batter minimum and the runner on 2b rule also. Two great minds I thought but then CF blew up my balloon because I hinted that I could be sold on DH. However I believe that Adam Wainwright would make an excellent DH. Flaherty can hit a bit but the rest – nah not so much so it leans back to DH some more. With as many bases loaded we have seen this season only Carp hit the Grand Salami and the more I say he looks terrible the more he shows me up – single yesterdat to score a run. I haven’t read the whole thread here yet but Yadi did have a real bone headed play last night. You can’t say it lost the game for us – but it did.

He has started at five different positions in his last six starts over the last seven days.

In the pregame, Shildt said that he is not saying Edman in the OF is permanent, but he is trying to get those with more productive at-bats more at-bats.

This is not how they measure productive at-bats, but Edman’s OPS+ is just 85. Still, that is better than O’Neill and Carlson. But substantially less than Bader and Fowler.

(shaking head back & forth….and then a few rigorous thrusts downward) read my lips Minuteman….NO NL DH. And considering the circumstances, 7 inning twin bill games are acceptable for 2020, but that is where the line in the sand must be firmly drawn. No more 7 inning affairs after this year. Seven inning baseball games are for little Leaguers and slow pitch softball aficionados ONLY!

Regardless of the above, Minuteman3 is still a champion to be reckoned with.

Best lineup they have available at this time, imo.

You had me on the ropes Pugs and then you let up on me like a nice guy. Never forget what Leo Durocher said, “Nice guys finish last.” So toughen up buddy because I have the power of MLB on my side (I apologize for that) and they say this DH horse dung will continue in ’21.

No reason to let our cleanup hitter bat. Lets run into an out (caught stealing) at 3B w/2 out.

The Cards fall behind the 8 ball once again. I do think there’s something to the mental fatigue theory. With the schedule in September only getting more grueling, it’s tough to imagine this team holding it together to make it to October. In fact, if it weren’t for the Pirates’ horrendous start to the year, the Cards could end up in last place.

I just know that you can pack quite a punch, Minuteman….. there’s that darn shift again coming into play to rob us of another base hit. That shift is another aspect of the game that needs to go the way of the dinosaur. At the most, I would allow teams to employ the shift for just two batters per game.

Bases now brimming with Birds with one out for Dexter…rifles a shot into the right field corner that will plate two! Dexter checks into 2nd with a double and this game is all knotted up at 2-2….with the Cards looking for more! Carlson bangs it past 1st and into right for a hit! Carp tippy toes on in with Dexter nipping at his heels and it’s 4-2 Birds!

Ok, maybe they have a little bit of fight left in them after all. After a series of base hits, Fowler doubles in two and Dylan Carlson singles in 2 and it’s 4-2 Cards.

Well a different lineup today. I find it interesting schildt saying hes trying to give the guys who have been having the most productive at bat more at bats quite interesting. Shows how little he knows. Edman has had a lot more opportunities being hes always been around the top but yet has come through the least. Then you factor bader actually gave the team the chance to win in extras because of his defense and they should have won with some normal baserunning skills and this seems even more silly. The only thing going for edman was a right handed pitcher being hes left handed batter. Still kinda silly. May work out, cards are up 4-2 but doesnt change what i said.
