Anyone have any real knowledge of Young’s defense?

There are some comments on him from this article last year.

I went to about 50 Springfield games last year, so I saw Andy after his call-up to AA. He’ll get the job done at 2B. Nothing stood out to me either way for him. He’ll play roughly average defense, but the bat more than makes up for it, assuming it continues to play as he climbs the ladder.

Ouch. Not a good day in the Southwestern desert. However, there is another game today.

    Cardinals27 asked:

Where can a person find an AFL box score?

Right here. In our recap articles posted after every game and announced daily on this thread, the top line with the score is also a hot link to the box score of the game. Everything you need is in one place that you can get to from this very thread.

Edman is a switch hitter that hits well both left-handed and right-handed. If Greg Garcia doesn’t come back, Edman would seem to have a pretty good chance of being his replacement. He might even be a better option than Munoz who was making too many errors.

Edman has just 17 games at Triple-A and doesn’t have to go on the 40-man yet. This spring seems too soon for him, IMO.

Brian, yes Edman needs more seasoning. As far as the infield prospect depth goes… I get a feeling that Young may have pulled even with Edman. Edman started the AAA championship game and Young was a replacement but I think the organization is liking what they see in Arizona. Glove=advantage Edman. Bat with some pop=advantage Young.

Maybe you can relay what you get a sense of regarding that. I’d also like to hear what is being said about Dobzanski down there.

I believe tha Munoz defense will improve. Garcia was just as bad when he first came up. Munoz seems to still be fighting the speed of the major league level. He has a great arm and more speed than you would think when you look at him.

Having said that I believe that Young and particularly Edman has a real shot.

I happened to be finishing our StL Rookie of the Year article and I could not help but notice how similar Bader’s and Munoz’ offensive results were this season. Of course, Bader has the huge edge defensively. I don’t think his managers did Munoz any favors by playing him at six different positions, though. That is a lot of adjusting to be going on simultaneously. I am with those not ready to give up on him.

IMO, one week of part-time play in Arizona should not be anywhere near enough time to alter anyone’s opinion of anybody – positively or negatively.

Well it can only go up.

Edman checks most every box except power. Assuming Garcia is non tendered, Edman may be next best middle infielder after Munoz. It will be an interesting 2019 for Munoz, Sosa, Edman, and Young. Also seems that unless extra roster clearing is done, Schrock won’t be protected, but I expect he’ll bounce back.

Just when I thought Conner Greene was trying his hardest to get removed from the 40 man roster.

Indeed Brian. This upstart Salt River Rafter unit is just starting to kick it into high gear…..much to the dismay of their AFL foes. The first 4 Rafters hitters went 9-18 on the day….2 triples and a Fuentes solo jolt amongst them. The sailing was not as smooth for the bottom 5 in the Rafter lineup as they went a combined 4-19. I hope our scouting personnel took note of Rafter LOOGY Jordan Mills(Nats), who worked a perfect 8th. This fellow is presently fleeceable, but won’t be for long. Speaking of “long”, he’s a little long in the tooth, but what we are witnessing here is a player just coming into his own. Go get him, Mo!!

No big “suprise” here, as our Saguaros found themselves up the river without a paddle once again to that runaway freight train named “The Salt River Rafters”! This time by the score of 7-5. Get a load of this….in yesterday’s Rafter romp over our sagging Saguaros, the first 4 players in the Rafter lineup went a blistering 9-18 at the dish. So what did they do today for an encore? How does 6-13 with 5 rbi grab you! Five Rafter hurlers toed the rubber today and each and every one of them yielded 1 run. Jordan Yamamoto carried the yeoman’s load going the first 5 innings and for his effort, lowered his already miniscule ERA to an eye-popping 1.64. 762 entertained patrons witnessed today’s action at Salt River Fields @ Talking Stick and the contest was completed in a fairly snappy time of 2:32. A special tip of the cap to home plate ump, Bryan Fields, who called one whale of a ballgame.
