stlcard25Participant#1-Alex Reyes. The upside is still high if the arm heals.
September 5, 2018 at 6:40 am #68234PadsFS
ParticipantYeah so for the top five, we will vote each one individually, then we will pick five at a time going forward from there.
It’s crazy, but Reyes is eligible with exactly 50 innings, just like Gant a few years ago.
My vote for #1 is Alex Reyes.
A couple notes – Dakota Hudson and Daniel Poncedeleon are eligible also with just 18 innings and 25 innings respectively.
September 5, 2018 at 6:44 am #68235PadsFS
ParticipantI don’t have edit priviledges restored yet, but Mike Mayers (#46) is ineligble due to graduation. Ryan Sherriff (#43) has been released as well.
Tyler O’Neill is still eligible with only 114 PAs as is Carson Kelly with only 119 PAs.
September 5, 2018 at 7:24 am #68245Minor correction. The qualification is not to exceed 130 at-bats (or 50 IP), not plate appearances.
O’Neill has a decent shot of falling off before the end of the season, but vote for him as you think. If he reaches 131 ABs, he can be removed from your list at that time and others moved up. Same with Kelly, though he may rarely be seen in September – other than out in the bullpen.
I hope everyone participates and enjoys the process. Feel free to have give and take about both strengths and weaknesses of the candidates, using good taste, of course. Remember that the best of your comments may end up in the countdown articles as we unveil the site list starting around Thanksgiving.
As always, your ranking will share equal weight with mine and Derek’s in the site top 50 for 2019, so I take your collective view seriously.
Also, a big “thank you” right up front to PadsFs for devoting the time to lead the voting and later summarizing the discussion here.

ParticipantAlso newly acquired was Jhon Torres who could be a factor.
September 5, 2018 at 9:02 am #68258Reyes at #1 of course. He has everything but command. But the big question is, can he stay healthy?
September 5, 2018 at 9:23 am #68265Reyes is my pick…though ONeill and Hudson are right there with him as Reyes stock has fallen due to injuries… upside still puts him at the top for me…
September 5, 2018 at 9:47 am #68274Welcome to those who are joining the voting for the first time after seeing my tweet and/or the article on the home page.

September 5, 2018 at 10:02 am #68276#1-Alex Reyes
O’Neill and Kelly are not prospects anymore, since they exceeded 43 days of major league service excluding roster expansion period. Kelly graduated at May, and Tyler at August.
Hudson, Poncedeleon is still a prospect.September 5, 2018 at 10:07 am #68279Going with Dakota Hudson #1.Andrew Knizner #2.Hudson because he has preformed at the MLB level and is still under the innings limit.Knizner at #2 because he he has hit at every level and has proven to be adequate catching.Knizner should be starting at Memphis next season and see STLouis sometime next season.Alex Reyes not a consideration because he can
t stay healthy enough to perform.Love the potential but you cant play from the training room or Doctors office.September 5, 2018 at 10:11 am #68280jungmh323, welcome. Though active MLB time is one rookie qualification criteria, we do not use it here in the prospect rankings. The primary reason is that is not tracked on a real-time basis in an easily accessible location. To keep matters simpler, we stick with AB and IP.
(Service time is not the same, as DL time is included there. In fact, Reyes already has move than two years of MLB service time!)

ParticipantWe lost so many top prospects and many more that were climbing or traded. So my vote is Reyes, although his time off the field makes him somewhat questionable.
O’Neill is a MLB regular now and should be #2 until he becomes ineligible.
Hudson and Knizner are closing in.
THE COMMUNITY VOTE IS IMPORTANT….. PLEASE PARTICIPATE.
The vote here will be instrumental in deciding the final off-season into Spring Training prospects ranking.
September 5, 2018 at 10:33 am #68282I didn
t vote ONeill because he will lose his eligibility here before the season is over once Shildt realizes JMart has hit a wall and needs rest.September 5, 2018 at 11:11 am #68286Reyes
September 5, 2018 at 1:16 pm #68297Lee
ParticipantDakota Hudson #1
September 5, 2018 at 4:24 pm #68316Reyes #1. When he’s on his pitches move in ways that defy the laws of physics. I just hope he can somehow get over the injury bug. This will certainly be his last year no matter what happens. You can’t blame anybody for not ranking him #1 after so much disappointment.
September 5, 2018 at 4:51 pm #68317Nunez…..and it’s not even close. I have Reyes down at #4, as there is a fair chance that injuries are going to plague him throughout his career, which is a crying shame.
September 5, 2018 at 5:23 pm #68323#1 – Reyes. He may have been injured the last 2 years but he still has the best arm in the system. He has the ability to be one of the best pitchers in baseball. The injuries are concerning but I don’t see why they will continue.
September 5, 2018 at 10:10 pm #68446Reyes #1 for me
September 6, 2018 at 12:33 am #68449Reyes #1. I don’t think his latest injury deminishes his ability and he seemed well recovered from the Tommy John surgery before his other injury.
September 6, 2018 at 2:38 am #68450Reyes #1. Absolutely dominated in his few starts to remind everyone of his ceiling. Couldn’t find anyone who had the same injury, so banking on modern medicine to allow for a strong come back.
September 6, 2018 at 7:39 am #68467PadsFS
ParticipantWith 15 votes in, I’m going to call it for Reyes for the #1 prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals for the 10th straight year! Congrats Alex!
Anyway, voting is open for #2 with some big names on the board with Kelly, Hudson, O’Neill all eligible to compete with the likes of Gorman and Nunez.
