Here’s a series where the whole team just needs to play solidly and they can make up a little ground. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. It’d be nice to see Weaver get back on track and the offense hit a little against a pretty mediocre pitcher.

I saw that they said that O’Neill may require the DL for his groin injury? Boy, that OF depth really thinned in a hurry, if so. I guess Martinez will play RF again, or maybe Muñoz.

Doubt we make up any ground during this series. On paper could even lose. The Cubs have Kansas City and the Brewers have San Diego. Two of the worst teams in baseball, along with the Marlins.

This is a series the Cardinals need to keep the momentum going, and win at least two. All year they have had times where they play well against good clubs, have the look like they are about to go on a stretch where they win say 12 of 15 or so, only to drop games against sub-.500 teams.

O’Neill hits two homers a day at Memphis then as soon as he gets promoted he gets hurt. Pretty typical of our season.

to really get back in this thing at some point we will need to sweep a few teams, good ones or bad ones

we haev a nice stretch here against some teams we SHOULD beat…that never ends up being how things go but the opportunity is there…

also i know we have series IN detroit coming up too (i know because i live there and am going to all 3 games…look for me behind the plate on Friday I think…splurged for some nice seats)

    also….any update on ONeill?

2 days of a short bench is as long as i can stand it before i start getting frustrated

if he’s hurt DL him, if it’s 7 days send him to AAA and bring up a warm body at least

When it comes time, you should wear a goofy hat or something so we can figure out who you are.

O’Neill has been a little bit of “Reyes-light”. When he gets an opportunity at the big league level, he gets hurt. It happened early in the year as well.

Bicyclemike- very very very little” Reyes light”-ONeill hasnt missed massive parts of seasons.A week or two here and there but not even a close comparison IMHO.

Gets the Memphis roster to 25. Someone will have to go when Ross is added and Gomber/Gant need a spot there.

Bw – That’s why I said “a little bit of “Reyes-light”. I know what you mean, as Reyes’ big-league career was supposed to start two years ago, and he is still a big unknown. So much so that for me, I am no longer counting on anything from him. He looks like a guy that will never be what he could have been due to constant injuries.

O’Neill can at least play most of the year, but when his major league opportunity comes he has been banged up.

BMike- Alex Reyes is like the guy in the old Lil Abner comic strip-The guy with the Black Cloud that always hovered over him.Probably before your time.Agree with you about Reyes-don`t count on him for anything and be pleasantly surprised if he is able to pitch and help.
As for O`neill and his “discomfort’ I wonder if this was a reaction from the sliding catch a few games back and maybe a kind of nagging pain that got worse after a couple of days? Just guessing?

A little early to close the book on Reyes. It’s a concern with the back to back injuries. If he proceeds to be injured then at worst you can use that electric stuff in the bullpen. It will be a letdown for some and yes he’ll be viewed as a bust but we all know he can pitch in some capacity in the majors.

O’Neill’s ailment is kind of mysterious. The Cardinals have made it clear that it is not a baseball related injury but some other kind of vague ailment. Maybe it is something private. I guess it really doesn’t matter since the bottom line is he will be out at least 10 days. Just kind of weird.

I’d almost be for trading Reyes before the rest of the league realizes that he’s injury prone and/or could never be a starter, I hope that I’m wrong but…

I am kind of excited to see the teams for the next month. No Fowler, Cecil likely on rehab, the young guys getting a chance. Although it would have been nice to see Garcia start tonight, as we already know how well Martinez plays defense.

And too bad O’Neill isn’t healthy, but Garcia should be fun to watch. Can’t wait for someone to try and take the extra base on him. He can be erratic, but he has a canon of an arm.

Dan just mentioned that Chen’s ERA at home is around 2.50…and on the road, about 11. That’s a crazy split. Hopefully it normalizes tonight.
