Big fail by Molina. Swung at the first pitch way out of the zone, then followed that with a weak DP. C’mon, the vet is supposed to show some poise in that situation. I guess he forgot to breathe.
Well folks, this is our life. Watch our team grind out a tough series win against PIT, then fail to score a run through 8 against these chumps, followed by only scoring one run on bases loaded walk in the top of the 9th. Miami has the 4th worst record in baseball. Another embarrassing loss…
Yeah You either find something to drive or swing from your heels and whiff. We still had another bat behind him. Garbage!
Molina has hit into a million rally-killing DPs over his career. But he is so valuable. Every time he comes up with a runner on at 1st I fully expect him to hit into a DP.
Not a big fan of Yadi in the 2 slot, although he does come up with some big hits. Seemed to have a bad approach on that AB though, swing at the first pitch up and away. That is a place where you want to make the pitcher work.
Wong got robbed! Should have walked as that pitch was what, 3-4 inches outside? Should have had Carp up with the bases juiced in a 1 run game with no outs.
And really, that ball Gyorko hit sounded like it would leave the yard. Dan and Tim were shocked it did not get out. Not the Redbirds night.
Don’t forget the one Bader crushed that just fell short as well.
I think Yadi tried to play hero ball when he should’ve figured out a way to get the runner from 3rd home with a flyball.
Games like this sting a bit! We had our chances and just couldn’t cash in. How many runners stranded the last 3-4 games?
I don’t have a problem with Yadi in the 2 spot. He has actually hit rather well there since Shildt made the move. A majority of the time he is going to come through in that situation last night but it just didn’t work out this time. We sure don’t have anyone else who can hit there. DeJong has flopped since coming off the DL.

“We” (a lot of Cards fans, myself included) often say this or that person isn’t right for the 2 spot, or the cleanup sport, or some other spot. Unfortunately we’re right, but then when you try to come up with a different order that works up and down the line, it’s hard to do so with our roster. Overall, I don’t have a problem with Yadi batting second given what I stated above and he generally handles the bat better than most. However, last night he was too anxious in the final AB, which I guess he’s prone to do with runners on base. That was was a bad situation for the Marlins and the fresh reliever was on shaky ground. Yadi didn’t give him a chance to screw it up, which he appeared he might try to do with the first pitch way out of the zone.
Bader could be a better #2 hitter, but needs to cut down on the strikeouts. For the rest of this year, keeping Yadi there is fine. Ideally I would like a lineup where Yadi hits 6th or 7th, but right now the second slot is probably just as good as any for him.
