Brian, if you’re still at Spring Training, can you ask about our injured prospects like Hence, Rincon, Hjerpe. Even Roby and Willis too.

I will be at Spring Training until the bitter end. I post daily reports.

The first three pitchers you mention are throwing pens. Roby is among the rehabbers here. Willis was not invited to early camp.

Is there any idea when fitts, the pitcher we got in the gray deal may pitch. I like his attitude so far. The team seems to think he could make a good impression this year.

Fitts threw a two-inning bullpen today, so I would guess we might see him early next week.

I wonder which Fitts we will see? In 2024 he had good numbers for the Sox. 2025 was not the same. I am guessing he will be a back end starter.

Seems like he had some injuries last year

Rumblings Cardinals are close to signing Ramon Urias to a deal…right handed bat…utility infielder

    2025 stats on urias hit .241. 11 HR 44 RBI. 384 SLG. 675 OPS. 2.1 war

    Can play 2nd/3rd and SS

I mean..the urias signing prob just means no JJ for opening day unfortunately- right?

May mean Gorman has some competition at 3rd…Urias can actually hit and had 78 games at 3rd last year

I’d guess Urias takes the spot Saggese was filling, backing up 2B/3B/SS. Fermin becomes LF till Noot comes back. Saggese is sent to Memphis to work on OF defense.

Church with a HR for first run of spring

Ramon Urias signing is also official

Urias is going to be a bench option with Fermin or Prieto losing their spot. He isn’t taking Wetherholt’s starting 2B. The fact Urias has incentives in his contract for PA would back this up. Urias to me looks more like insurance in case Gorman completely flops or is injured there is a 3B option as 3B is incredibly thin on the MLB roster and upper minors.

Fermin has no options, so I’d think Saggese (with options) would be the guy who loses out here? Nice to listen to a ballgame again!

I know it’s game one of ST but Ryan Fernandez has been terrible since early 2nd half of 2024. People talk about Roycroft but I don’t think enough attention has been paid to how terrible Fernandez has been for a very long time.

There should be some competition for the last couple pen slots.

Mathews didn’t look too good in the box score, how did he look for real?

Pretty lackluster game to open spring with the Nats

    Liberatore a decent 2 innings with 4 K’s
Church with the HR was about the only offense to speak of

Skylar Hales striking out the side in his inning was a bit surprising

Bravo for Hales as three strikeouts swinging against three any batters is cool. However, here are their names and where they finished last year:

    Luke Dickerson 2025 Low-A
    Ronny Cruz 2025 rookie ball
Jack Moroknek 2025 draft 11th round – no pro experience

    Bling-

Reports were that Mathews velocity was good. His fastest was 96.0 last year and he had 5 pitches between 96 and 97 yesterday. And I saw some talk of movement on his pitches being good. But then there’s the control thing….
