cardsfan64ParticipantThought we should start a thread about Spring Training since it starts tomorrow! I am really excited because I get to attend this year! I won 2 free tickets to the March 7 game in Jupiter from Rob Rains website, STL Sports Page. I also bought tickets for the March 5 game as well. Really looking forward to being down there! First time going to Jupiter! Last spring training I attended was over 35 years ago when the Cards were on the west coast of Florida! I think it was St. Pete. Anyone know of good places to eat or places we should make sure to see, please let me know! Go Cards!
February 13, 2024 at 1:43 pm #242679Sounds great cardsfan64! Look forward to your first hand reports. Have fun!!

ParticipantSounds great. I e never been to Florida even so hope you have fun.
February 13, 2024 at 6:10 pm #242689They used to play at AL Lang field in St Pete Beach. Had some wonderful times there before they ruined the vibe with major league pricing. Now I just head to Springfield if I want to watch baseball without getting ripped off.
February 14, 2024 at 10:02 am #242699Middleton out sick today. Naughton not ready to go yet. All other pitchers healthy according to Mo. Per Jeff Jones.

Participantcardfan64….. I hope that you have a super time. We’ll expect your reports and comments.
February 14, 2024 at 11:54 am #242701cf64, my advice is to try to allocate some time to check out the morning action on the back fields. Enjoy the sun and the baseball!
February 14, 2024 at 5:55 pm #242720Never been to a Cardinals ST – hope to someday. I have been to Arizona and the Rockies training. A great experience.
February 14, 2024 at 8:35 pm #242724They jack the prices for hotels way up for Spring training.
That said, I think the best place to stay is at the Courtyard by Marriott Palm Beach Jupiter. It is, literally, right across the street from the front entrance to Roger Dean Stadium. They include parking with your reservation which is nice because you have your car right there and you don’t have to hassle with parking. There is a walking/entertainment area to your right as you’re facing Roger Dean Stadium called Downtown Albacoa. There is a breakfast restaurant called Dune Deck Cafe in Lantana which is really just an extension of West Palm Beach. It sits on top of a sand dune that runs parallel to a beach on the Atlantic Ocean. If you get there before 9 AM, you might not have to wait for a table. The ocean breeze can be cool so you might want to bring a jacket. I believe it takes 30-40 minutes to get there from Roger Dean.
http://www.dunedeckcafe.comOne place that my wife and I liked was the Manatee Lagoon. Manatees are huge, graceful sea creatures that frequent the dock at Manatee Lagoon. If you go there, hopefully, you will get to see a Manatee drift on by in the water just below. I think admission is free.
http://www.visitmanateelagoon.comThere are many interesting things to do, after all, you’re in Florida. It’s best to do your research so you can pick, and choose, and plan for the things that appeal to you. If you go to the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, understand that it’s a lot of steps to the top.

You’ll be leaving The Great Midwest at the end of winter and arriving in a place where the grass is green and palm trees are swaying in the breeze and tropical flowers are in bloom.
Wish I was…wish we all were going with you.
February 14, 2024 at 9:19 pm #242726Any starting pitcher hurt yet?
It’s been one day already…….

cardsfan64ParticipantThanks for the well wishes, all! We are looking forward to going. Thanks also for the info about places to go and things to do! I will be checking out websites and suggestions real soon! I think I will also drop by my local AAA club (not baseball affiliated) and see what they recommend.
Can’t wait until games start toward the end of the month! I imagine the players are ready to begin as well!

Participant2/24 John Denton:
Marmol confident Cards ‘have what it takes’ to get back to postseason.
The irony is that the Cards would have a better chance without him.

cardsfan64ParticipantBrian, (or anyone else who knows the answer) when do the minor league clubs start their Spring Training? I saw that the FCL is starting earlier this year (May 4 – July 25) so they could start after the Cardinals vacate Roger Dean. But with Memphis scheduled to play on March 29 and the rest of the full season clubs beginning April 5; they will need to be starting by early March at least. Has anyone heard when these teams report to camp? More curious than anything, but hope to catch a look at several MiLB players while at ST.
February 15, 2024 at 3:22 pm #242755STEP Camp players report this month so there should be minor leaguers working out when you are there. Games against external competition probably won’t start until the second half of March.
February 16, 2024 at 8:01 am #242762Maybe I am just a traditionalist, but it always bothers me to see guys who are supposed to be getting into shape riding a golf cart on the way to work out…

February 16, 2024 at 12:21 pm #242764Pretty lame comments from Arenado today. The clubhouse was overrun by the young guys last year. There so many of them. He and Goldy were just not the type of veterans the team needed to run the clubhouse so he is happy for Carp to hold the young guys accountable. What a crock of manure.
February 16, 2024 at 8:16 pm #242780‘Bakeshow’
February 17, 2024 at 4:43 am #242782I think there is 0% chance both Carp and Baker are on the roster. The time to see what he’s got was last year when we were out of it. From about the midpoint on, certainly from the sell off, either Baker or Burleson should have been in the lineup every day. I makes one wonder who is in charge and if they know what they are doing. It doesn’t seem so.
February 17, 2024 at 8:36 am #242784Well, I guess he will tear it up in Memphis again this year and if Carpenter flames out get called up to replace him OR otherwise get traded for a piece we need…

Yeah I read what he said. It just proves what I already thought about him and Glody. They are betas in every way which is why when push comes to shove they wilt. Those dude will never “lead” or “put a team on their back” to the promised land. No way in hell I’d resign Goldschmidt, and I’d look to offload Arenado as soon as practical. Great sports teams need alphas not washed up never was like Marp. What a crock of manure for sure.

ParticipantMarp is a far cry from being a never was.
February 17, 2024 at 8:58 am #242792He had a couple of good seasons with his bat. That’s it, besides making hot sauce.

Participant3 time All Star who has a career
OPS of .818 after 5,616 major league plate appearances over 13 years. That’s a long way from being a “never was”.February 17, 2024 at 2:10 pm #242810He’s an average player at best and making the “all-star” game doesn’t mean much. Every team has someone in the game. He has almost as many strike outs as hits for his career, a number he’s sure to add to if he somehow makes the team and sticks all season. Cherry picking metrics doesn’t make the point that while he had a couple of decent seasons doesn’t make him anything more than what I said he was. An average at best player with a below average defensive profile that shouldn’t even be in the league anymore much less in the Cardinals clubhouse this spring.
