If I park in the parking deck on the west side of the stadium, what is the best (quick) way to get out of town to Illinois. I don’t want to sit in traffic for 45 minutes in stop and go. I was looking at going up to Market then going West to Tucker and taking Tucker North until I get to I-70. Thoughts? Anything better?

forsch31…That depends on where you want to go after you cross the river. Poplar St. Bridge which accepts traffic from I64, I55 and US RT.40 is normally the one I used to take if I had to access Illinois from the downtown area.

I am going to be taking I-55 North towards Springfield.

Is the traffic to the Poplar st. Bridge going to be snarled for 45 minutes?

Tucker dumps you right on 70 and acrosss the Musial bridge. That’s exactly how I’d try to avoid the stadium traffic.

forsch31…Well, that’s a good question. See, anytime I’ve left the ballpark, I’ve always headed west to St. Louis Co, so I can’t really give you a definitive answer, Forsch. I do know Poplar St. Bridge is closer to Busch Stadium. Another factor is that I always try to avoid travelling north from downtown StL. If you make a wrong turn or anything else unforeseen happens, there’s plenty of rough areas and where you access I70 from north of downtown, it’s no joke. If it were me, I’d take a chance on the traffic and take Poplar St. Bridge to cross the river and access I55 from there. Good luck, man!

1TD, Poplar St Bridge is the one that takes I-64 and I-55 over the Mississippi?

I used to go West on Market St. and make my way to (I think) the 20th St exit onto I-64 East bound. That exit is now closed due to the stadium that is being built there. I took Tucker St to I-70 the last game I went to and I wasn’t real comfortable being there. I just don’t want to sit in traffic forever. All the easy exits to quickly get to Illinois keep getting closed.

It looks like I could take Old Rt 66 from the West side of the stadium and go South to Gratiot St and get onto I-64. I just don’t know how long it would take to go a couple of blocks. Plus, the street on the west side of the stadium is usually closed, I think, right after the game.

The old exit I took was off of Pine.

They have permanently closed 2 eastbound exits onto I-64 in the last 20 years.

forsch31…Yeah, it can be hit or miss with road construction closures and I don’t blame you about traffic. But I really can’t be too sure about traffic on the Poplar St. Bridge after a game. I would guess that knowing there was going to be a play-off game, the geniuses that plan construction closures would make sure that access across the river was easily available, but you never really know. If you’re already familiar with the north from downtown to I70 route, that may be your best bet. But like I stated earlier, I always try to avoid travelling north from downtown if I can help it.

I don’t know why everybody is so down and out over losing in a tough fashion during Fridays game. All we need to do is win two games in a row. Baseball is a funny game. You get to forget the previous day in a hurry. Hang in there posters, the boys will be fine.

And if they are not fine for two days, well, like I said – we had no chance anyway. We were beat from the very beginning. It was doom and gloom, woe and despair. This team fizzled out during the stretch run. We were lucky to even make the playoffs.

I already feel better about the Redbird’s chances this game knowing forsch will be there. Certainly none of today’s disaster will be repeated with forsch on hand. Pull us through, forsch — you and I have to attend a live WS game soon. I was hoping for this year!

I can’t say about coming from the garage but I usually park in a parking lot on 7th street I guess. It’s not the one by killroys or whatever that bar is. It’s the one just past this little square building that has old sodas on it if you are coming on 7th from the south or or just before it otherwise. The east exit from the lot if you turn left there takes you right on the ramp to Illinois. I usually wait a while anyway, I’m a patient man so not sure how fast it is if you don’t wait.

A direct quote from the Redbird manager…”The next day is a new day. We either win or go home. We’ll embrace that”… Well, he’s got no choice. Better give tomorrow’s game a big hug because it may be the last one you get for a while.

I don’t think losing this game is the end all but how we lost it can effect things. First our mental state and secondly our bullpen. This is a better Phillie team than earlier in the year. They are much better now. When you have a chance to win a game you can’t afford mistakes. But our offense especially our big guys need to come out to play. This is when they should shine.

Well, it’s do or die day already. Facing Nola is not going to be easy, as I think he holds the offense to 2 runs or less, pretty much guaranteed. You have to wonder how the team is going to be able to respond to the gut punch yesterday. Sadly, I think the careers of Albert and Yadi end with a whimper. Calling it 6-2, Phillies with Harper slugging two homers.

We have pounded yesterday’s game to death, but I will say it again anyway – the whole mess started with Marmol pulling Quintana too early. I am sure they have some silly stat that shows he gets hit harder the third time around, but then that is true for most every starter. Jose has pitched great down the stretch and was solid in this one. You ride the hot hand, not to mention not put the burden on an average bullpen to get 11 outs in the first game a short series.

The one comfort we can take is two other home teams also lost yesterday, so it was a day for the underdog. Only the Guards got it done at home.

Tonight looks like another nail biter, with two good pitchers going. Our offense has been in one of those funks we seem to get into now and then. At some point we will likely break out with a double-digit run scoring game. The question is, will time run out before we come to that game?

Frankly I think a lot of the anti Marmol stuff is a bunch of crap. Some people have been against him from day one yet he led us to a 93 win season and a division championship. I don’t agree with everything he does but the players have to step up.

Yesterday just about everyone in a Cardinal uniform stunk except Quintana and Yepez. The bats went cold and Helsley blew it. I find it strange that reports after the game stated that Helsley was having problems with his finger which led to the wildness but reports before the game stated that everything was ok and he was ready to go. Did Helsley lie to the coaching staff or did they just hear what they wanted to hear? If he isn’t healthy then he doesn’t need to be on the roster.

Hopefully everyone in the clubhouse is pulling in the same direction unlike this board.

I think if we win tonight we will definitely win tomorrow night because the Phillies rotation drops off quite a bit after their top two.

    CARDINALS ANALYSIS Sometimes Baseball Happens
Baseball happened in the Game 1 loss to the Phillies. By J. P. Hill

Anything can happen in this game. Its baseball and that’s why we watch. Mets lost at home 7-1…. no one saw that coming. I was kind of surprised to see so many Cards fans leaving early. We had a chance to tie it in the ninth. WTH
I had enough of reading about Game 1… looking forward to watching Game 2 tonight.

BikeMike…Of course they have a stat like that and that’s okay. As you know, the fashionable trend in today’s game are the terms advanced analytics or metrics or whatever sounds sexy to the people that promote these latest fads. The reality is that this has been going on for over a century. It’s simply called “the book.” And as you know, the book is used form and initial strategy for a game plan. That’s a logical approach. But then there’s a concept that I’m also sure you’re aware of that’s called “In game management.” In my view, that concept dictates that you’re sometimes required to ignore what the book suggests to be the best approach and simply use your eyes and other senses that are honed by practical experience. Quintana was at 75 pitches thru 5.1 IP and had easily and effectively handled not only both Schwarber and Harper, but the entire Philadelphia line-up. There was no need to take counsel from anything other than your eyes. Simply toss the book and manage the game as it progresses. Sometimes the best way to learn something is the hard way. Maybe the guy learned a little something…

Cards win tonight’s game and the series is ours. For those feeling blue (cough cough….. RatsBuddy), take solace in the idea that Philadelphia’s comeback victory yesterday was not of the miraculous variety. It was a very nice victory from a Phillies perspective, but not miraculous. If it had been miraculous in nature, then the ensuing energy sent in Philly’s direction would have made it nearly impossible for our Cardinals to win Game 2. This game is for the taking. Our boys are certainly talented enough to get the job done…….but are they hungrier than Philadelphia?

14NyquisT…Everything you wrote was true. The Mets lost 7-1 at home and were entirely outmatched for that entire ballgame. I watched that game while Max Scherzer was being touched-up for 4 taters by SD hitters. That’s a reality. The Redbirds took a 2-0 lead into the visitor half of the 9th. They then lost 6-3. That’s the first time that’s ever happened in any post-season game in Cardinal franchise history. That’s also a reality.

Let’s see, if Mikolas can throw a no-hitter through five, perhaps we can wait until the bottom of the sixth before we yank him. And perhaps we can throw all the player names into a hat and have Alexa Datt draw the lineup.
