He’s not going to make it.

If Albert doesn’t get the starts vs pitchers such as this Cory James Abbott fellow, then he’s not going to make it to the magical #700 mark. Six dingers surrendered in just 26 innings of labor are listed in Mr. Abbott’s 2022 resume. Yes the team comes first, but with where the club is presently situated in the playoff picture, plus how well Albert has been hitting righties of late, he really should get the start in these sort of games. Matter of fact, I would be totally shocked if Mollie didn’t insist on Albert starting tonight’s game.

And let us not forget that today is Wednesday and we all know the major event that Wednesdays bring us. One of our first topics at the din-din table on Wednesdays are what did Rat have for lunch earlier that day at the Gasthof. You should see the disappointment on my little 6 year old granddaughter’s face when Rat has not reported his Gasthof happenings yet…….it would literally break your heart.

Hopefully your seats are in the left field bleachers, stlcard25. I’d love to see you catch #700 or #701. If one of us did come up with #700, what HONESTLY would you do with it? I hate to admit it, but as much as I love Albert and the Cardinals, 20 years ago, I would have auctioned it off to the highest bidder. But these days I really don’t need the coin, so I think I’d request some super cool memorabilia items from Albert for the ball. Nothing huge and personal like a WS ring, but some really neat items. And of course I would have a picture taken of me handing the ball over to Albert with Albert having a smile on his face half the size of Texas while he was accepting the ball with his right hand and high fiving me with his left hand.

Good thought ZTR- maybe Albert signs some kind of variable contract where he will play til he gets to #702. Whoever catches #702 is gonna need personal protection thats for sure.

I don’t know why, but I just hate the expression “goes yard.” I grimace internally every time I hear it. Nonetheless I hope we do a lot of it tonight. Rah Cardinals!

Although it seems impossible to precisely calculate how batting orders will turn over or when a game situation will dictate that an opposing manager opt for a LHP from his BP, Marmol will undoubtedly see to it that Pujols will get as many PA’s as possible in order for him to reach the 700 HR plateau. I’d also say that the more favorable position in the standings will have a direct impact on how many PA’s he’ll get from now ’til season’s end. Thus far, at 272, Albert’s averaged 2 PA’s over the 136 games already in the books. Which means if that holds sway he’ll get 52 more in the 26 games remaining. He’s averaged exactly 1 HR for every 17 PA’s this season, which means if the laws of average hold true, he’ll tater up 3 more times and come up a little shy of 700. However, I’d say Albert certainly has a knack for shattering the laws of average all over creation…Haha…I have way too much free time to figure all of this fun stuff!

stlcard25…Haha! Man, that’s a tough one. Two tough outs to get! I’d say as long as Albert passes Rodriguez to take over sole possession of 4th place, I’d be happy even if he comes up shy of 700 so long as Goldy grabs the TC. However, I also reserve the right to change my mind at any point in time…Haha!

As a very young boy, my only vivid recollection of Sportsman’s Park was the sight and sound of what seemed at my young age, to be mythical giants clad in perfect Cardinal uniforms and carring their gloves as they descended a metal staircase originating at a door opening from a clubhouse that was elevated and located well above field level. I recall that the sound of their steel cleats making contact with the stair treads was imposing as they filed down to an area where fans gathered to get a glimpse of them and possibly an autograph prior to these remarkably impressive figures making a sharp right turn at the end of their descent and heading toward a tunnel area that led to field level and their dugout. As a 6 year old boy, I’d never seen or heard anything quite as impressive.

The thing I remember about Sportsmans park is occasionally cutting a days classes, driving to STL with a carload of pals and getting some good grandstand seats for $1.50 and drinking a couple of beers a college student could actually afford. Imagine that!
