FYI.
In their Wednesday afternoon game in Colorado the Rockies were missing Tatis, Hosmer, and Myers.
Looks like the starters for the Padres this series are listed as Joe Musgrove, Chris Paddack and Ryan Weathers. No Snell or Darvish, which is nice. Unfortunately, these west coast games mean I will maybe be able to watch an inning or two before bed so hopefully the Cards can help me wake up to some good results.
Anxious to see the starting lineup for the Padres in this one. I know Tatis is out but still not quite sure about Hosmer, Myers, Mateo, etc.
I am heading to the Southridge at Jasper game this evening. First pitch at 6:00. Big rival game. Supposedly Southridge has a player – Colson Montgomery – that is garnering alot of interest from colleges and scouts. However, Jasper is favored in this one. I should return home with plenty of time for me and Whitey Herdog to catch the first pitch from Jack Murphy Stadium.
But just before I head to the game I am heading back to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant. Din-din later today will consist of catfish fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, cherry cobbler, and ice cream. Along with sweet tea. Just love them catfish, wish they had them other days as well.

Sounds like a din din to die for Rat. Yesterday I got sort of an open face guacamole sandwich. My grandson said its called avacodo toast. Well la-di-da. It was horrible.
I asked my wife. It had diced up cherry tomato and cucumber. chopped up fresh parsley. black pepper and lemon juice squeezed over it. pinch of salt. I appreciate the effort that went into it and know I need to develop a taste for stuff that won’t kill me. But its like when I quit smoking years ago.
I just saw on Yahoo Sports/MLB that it appears that both Will Myers and Eric Hosmer will be out. Not sure if it’s just for tonight or the whole series.
Cards definitely need to win two of these three games. With the players the Padres have out and the fact that we are missing both Snell and Darvish we need to get the job done.

I have actually seen the Cardinals sweep two doouble-headers in San Diego, one from each my stints living in SoCal. The first was 1975, and the second 1985. In fact, in ’85 I did some part time work for the Pads, selling tickets in the box office. That was back when my dream was to work my way into a finance job with a big league ball club. Finally had to give it up, as I was told those jobs are few, and high profile and usually go to family members who have relatives that have been with the club for generations, or friends of current employees and that sort of thing.
I did hustle my way into an interview with both the Cardinals and Royals, but it was the old “Thanks, but no thanks” bit. By the time the Rockies came around here in ’93, I was well established elsewhere and did not even pursue anything. And the ticket manager was a former boss of mine when I was a grad student at the U of Colorado, and worked part-time in their athletic business office.
Ah, but better shut down the personal resume. With the Pads short-handed this is a great opportunity to grab another series win.
Damn, just saw Shidt’s lineup come across my phone, and he has Carpenter in there again, with Edman at short! He did drop him to 6th, but why is he even playing?? Does anyone have a legitimate answer to that? What does it take to get Sosa some reps?

Bacon makes everything better. I once ate a Brussels Sprout because it was wrapped in bacon, and that is saying a lot.
I used to eat avocado toast in So Cal, but only with bacon and a fried egg on top. Now we are in Minnesota and we never see it.
Yea sosa is being hosed here. Could have put moroff there, get the kid in while he is hot, not let him get cold sitting on bench.
Yeah, there is nothing to be gained by playing Carp over Sosa and it would be useful to give Sosa the MLB experience. Shild knows whose $18M it is, the same guy who signs his pay checks.
I understand Carp was a good player at one time, and he will occasionally turn on a pitch. But the guy is hitting .121 for crying out loud. He has three times as many strike outs as hits!! His OPS+ is 58.
You have a golden opportunity to get Sosa, a pretty good talent with some pop, some regular reps. Man, this is just the definition of insane – doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
The FO ate the Fowler money to continue the outfield auditions but seem unwilling to give Sosa the same opportunity to start (Carpenter). I think BW once said Sosa was the only 40man player not to get called up in 2020. Makes you wonder.
Yeah, I just don’t get it. Mo said something before Spring Training about the team would be it’s best if Carpenter can win the second base job – an odd comment to say the least. It seems the organization is committed to giving Carpenter as many opportunities as possible, and squeeze in playing time whenever they can.
The only justification is that they are hoping beyond hope Carp justifies their giving him an extension, and will run him out there regardless of production. I don’t know what else it can be. They made an investment and are going to give it every chance for a decent ROI. Sosa is making the minimum (I assume), so not a lot to lose by letting him atrophy on the bench.
I hate that kind of management!
Some enticing din-din considerations, gang. It was Culver’s for me tonight. Three piece cod, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, buttered roll, large hot fudge sundae and a healthy splash of Mt. Dew to wash her all down with.
God willing, your’s truly should be riding high in the PBP saddle this evening. I would relish the idea of David and The Hammer at my side to add some color to the broadcast. And don’t worry about hiding the kiddies with The Hammer at the mic, as he has promised BicycleMike to refrain from any further naughty word usage on our game threads.
My dinner was simple.,, just some Papa Murphy’s Pizza with some cola. Watching the SF game and watched Crawford go yard to put SF up 1-0 in the 8th. My wifey is from the Bay Area so she’s all about the Giants.
Indeed Pugs, the Hammer was gracious in his apology for the slight slip down into the gutter, and is a good addition to the team and the broadcasts.
Simple did-din here. Sloppy Joes, loaded up with some shredded sharp cheddar and fresh tomato slices some cottage cheese on the side, and a Friday evening brewskie from a local brewer. Oh, a Caussen’s dill pickle slice on the side as well.
I’m going to pop open a Michelob Ultra as game time nears. We’re avoiding both Snell and Darvish this weekend series.
Pugs? You called it earlier tonight! The Jasper Wildcats came from behind to defeat the Southridge Raiders by the score of 4-3 in eight innings at Ruxer Field in Jasper. Southridge’s sloppy defense hurt them in this one. And the highly touted kid from Southridge, Colson Montgomery, has signed to play at Indiana University.
Now, back to the Redbirds. I think each and everyone of us are holding on to the hope that somehow, someway Carpenter produces again. I’m not optimistic about that but only time will tell. And he is certainly getting enough times to produce but I havent seen much yet except the two pinch-hit three run homers.

Looks like many a Cardinal Nation brewski will be gulped down on tonight’s game thread. For those who may not have completely read The Cardinal Nation Message Board Rule’s & Regulations ( cough cough….David & The Hammer ), Brian has a one beer per inning limit on all game threads. Please keep in mind that those exceeding these generous limits, will be caught. I have no idea how Brian, UCONN and BicycleMike do it, but they nailed me both times I tried breaking this golden rule. First time was in June of ’08 when I downed 13 beers in an afternoon affair vs the Mets. That first infraction resulted in a one week suspension. The next time I tried it was my first day coming back off that one week suspension. 14 beers in a 6 2/3 inning rain shortened game resulted in a 3 week suspension. I’ve been clean ever since. One beer per inning it is….not a drop more.
