Please check the “2020 Playoff Seedings” thread right here on this forum. It is very easy to find. EuroDandy and so_cal_cards_fan are doing a great job keeping everyone informed.
I think having the extra day off would be huge for this team, hopefully they win today and get it over with. Facing the Padres wouldn’t be easy, but three game funkiness happens all the time and they are a very young team.
But to the task at hand…the Cards are due for the “good” cycle of their back and forth offensive output. You’d think the Cards would be happy to face a lefty with all the right handed hitters in the lineup, but they’ve been weak against lefty starters this year (.611 OPS vs .722 OPS against righty starters). Hopefully Gomber pitches as well as he did his last start and we get a couple of big flies to seal a playoff spot.
Gomber has pitched well, and if he has command then we win this game. If he falls behind in counts then things could get out of hand in a hurry. But I think we will do enough to get this one, and the offense gets a few runs. Nothing like 7 or 8, but maybe 4 or 5 and we can avoid Motor City.
If we clinch a playoff spot today then we have our rotation set up the way we want for the opening series with Jack, Waino, and Kim ready to go. But what if we have to play tomorrow? Does Shildt go with Ponce, Oviedo, or Woodford with everything on the line in order to keep our big 3 rested?
I think if they have to play tomorrow, you have to go with Kim on short rest. Can’t chance it with two bullpen games or Ponce on even shorter rest.
Last time I checked we were 3-7 vs a LH SP’r. It’s like we have no DH for that scenario, Carp and Miller usually sit and who protects goldy?

DH O’NeillCarlson at cleanup, this is what it’s came to. He may do great, but look what it says about the rest of the vet roster vs LHP’s. O’Neill at DH and he has reverse splits to date for his career, much like DeJong mentioned above.
14 of the 15 MLB games today start at 2pm. The Tigers-Royals games started at noon. Why is that? Is it because they wanted to give the Tigers a break since they might have to travel back to Detroit to play us tomorrow even though logic would have had the games in St. Louis?
Oh well, their master plan isn’t working. The Tigers and Royals are currently in a rain delay.

Royals said they moved the game up in hopes of avoiding the rain.
