jj-cf-stlParticipantWith the NYM in “win now” they should also be considering Donovan for LF to address backfilling Nimmo. Noot adds effectiveness and playing time risk after surgery that Donny currently doesn’t.
Top 5 NYM trade targets, who ya got?

stlcard25ParticipantIf the Mets would give up Tong for Contreras and Nootbaar, I would do that in a second. Tong has top of the rotation potential. Really, any of their top 4 prospect arms (McLean, Tong, Sproat, Watson) would be a good get. I would imagine that McLean is probably not gettable but the other three may be available. Jacob Reimer is a young 3B prospect who would theoretically be available for callup by the time the next window starts. For Contreras alone, maybe add $5M a year cash and get Reimer and a lotto ticket? For Contreras and Nootbaar, $5-7M a year cash plus a prospect and grab Tong and a couple low A fliers?

jj-cf-stlParticipantLol, and that’s why I point to you for pitching acquisitions! Thanks 25.
December 11, 2025 at 9:07 am #297317So, as far the Cardinals are concerned – nothing substantive happened at the Winter Meetings?
December 11, 2025 at 9:10 am #297318I would imagine that McLean is probably not gettable but
Give em Noot Donovan and Contreras it still wouldn’t be enough.
December 11, 2025 at 9:45 am #297319nothing substantive happened at the Winter Meetings?
Losing Winquest was the biggest thing that happened.

ParticipantI’m not gonna lie, I really can’t stand what we are doing right now.
I hate ‘rebuilding’ and getting excited about saving a billionaires money even worse. We tank and don’t even get a good pick?!?! Frustrating to say the least.
December 11, 2025 at 9:55 am #297321Chalk up yet another boring winter meeting. One must wonder what they accomplished? If these guys were really serious about having productive meetings, they would have them in places like Boston, Chicago or even New York, instead of warm locations in Florida or Arizona. It looks like this event has evolved……or maybe “dissolved”…..into a time where the boys can get away from their families for a week to go have some fun. Chaim, being the newby on the block, probably put in at least a little work. It’s not difficult to envision Chaim turning down several invitations to go play golf or to head on out for drinks with the gang. But give Chaim a year or two and he’ll fall in line with the rest of the herd and accomplish next to nothing at these yearly winter fun events.

Totally agree.
December 11, 2025 at 11:16 am #297324The excitement of it all just sends chills down my back. I just love it when winning baseball games is no longer a priority.
December 11, 2025 at 11:51 am #297326I’ll take an extra year of him in his prime over a draft pick every single day and twice a day in April through October.
If JJ finishes top two in ROY he is going to earn the year of service time regardless. The MLB rules don’t care if it is a wasted year for the Cardinals or not.
December 11, 2025 at 11:57 am #297328Odd of getting traded (my opinion):
Donovan- 95%
Arenado- 95%
Jo Jo- 80%
Contreras- 60%
Noot- 35%
Gorman- 25%
Crooks- 20%
Walker- 10%
Burly- 10%
Herrera- 5%December 11, 2025 at 2:47 pm #297343
jj-cf-stlParticipantYep, good list. My minor adjustments would be Arenado at 40%, Gorman, Burly, Crooks and Pages all at 50%.
December 11, 2025 at 4:26 pm #297347Jj-CF, for the record I brought up Contreras for Tong in the other thread well before C25. He stole my “initial report”!
December 11, 2025 at 4:30 pm #297348Why would they trade Crooks…he is under control at mlb avg salary for many years, if he makes the ML team, last year was his first year at Memphis
December 11, 2025 at 4:58 pm #297349Why would they trade Crooks…he is under control at mlb avg salary for many years
Because they have five catchers on the 40 man and they need to rebalance the roster.
December 11, 2025 at 6:17 pm #297351They trade Crooks for maximum value for a very redundant player. Fingers crossed Herrera can stay there.
Wasting a year or two of a guy that was on at least one top 100 list is like adding ice to Antarctica, it’s a nice gesture but helps nothing…. When they have no winning aspirations.December 11, 2025 at 6:51 pm #297352Do these winter meetings address the potential nuclear winter foreshadowing the extended absence of Cardinal championships that could take on a similar half-life to that of weapons grade uranium? Could be a long, long time before there’s any joy in Redbirdland…It’s a veritable Doomsday Machine.
December 11, 2025 at 8:07 pm #297354The 5 catchers are Pages and Pozo who are perennial backups….Herrera who gets hurt when he plays catcher and cannot throw, and then a player at AA that looks a decent prospect and they also have at A ball who is a top prospect who is not on the 40 man….they also released and resigned Pozo so he is easily expendable.
I think a lefthanded hitting catcher like Crooks that was really good in AA and solid in his first year in AAA and is under control would hopefully get a better look for a team that appears to be going nowhere this year
December 11, 2025 at 8:24 pm #297356
jj-cf-stlParticipantOther teams want Crooks type value too. Nobody knocking down the door for Walker (10%).
December 11, 2025 at 9:07 pm #297357Crooks might go along with a contract guy so we might not get much back, depending on how much Our Bill eats.
As to Tong, I doubt the Mets trade him. He’s a win now guy. Start in AAA rotation and come up as soon as somebody goes down or falters.
December 11, 2025 at 11:34 pm #297360If they package 2 ready to go players like Noot and Conteras. It will Take more than Tong to get it done IMO. They need another RH OF bat to make it work. Doesn’t have to be a top 5 guy but top 6-15 from the mets.
I think Donovan’s trade value likely lessens with rumors like these. We’ll have to find a taker for Nado and eat money if we want him gone. Who gets the reps at 3rd when he’s gone? Spare me with Gorman. He’s a bum who can’t play 3rd and is a platoon player. We aren’t throwing Fermin out there for a season. Rather put JJ there and let him fail and keep Donny to hedge our bets. It seems teams don’t want to meet out asking price for him. Let’s get rid of Noot and eat a little money and let the mets have their 1st baseman who is cheaper and plays better D than the polar bear. Get some pitching and someone to hedge if Walker never figures it out(likely) or Baez never figure it out.
December 12, 2025 at 2:48 am #297361
jj-cf-stlParticipantNoot isn’t “ready to go”, as Edman wasn’t ready when we traded him. Our return for an injured Edman was DFA’d, while Edman signed a nice multi-year.
Pass on that approach again, by trading Noot before re-establishing his health and effectiveness.
December 12, 2025 at 5:18 am #297364Spare me with Gorman. He’s a bum who can’t play 3rd and is a platoon player.
Was a platoon player. He solved the platoon split in 2025 and now he can’t hit anyone.
December 12, 2025 at 6:46 am #297369I would think that the boys have packed it on for the holidays and that nothing more is likely to occur until mid to late January?
Looks like nobody’s buying what the Cardinals are selling – at least not anywhere near a price that would benefit us…
