Bling – I was kidding about him finishing 5th for MVP. But I think he’s probably a 1.5-2.5 WAR player as an average outcome even accounting for some time as injured. That’s an average MLB outfielder. I’m just guessing, which is what JJ asked for.
I doubt teams would offer 10mil when they know a half-season active is a strong possibility. I had him at 1/6mil.

Alex Verdugo goes from the Red Sox to the Yankees for prospects. Strange the two rivals would do a trade.
Basically the Winter Meetings have been a dud so far which is typical. This time it is because of Ohtani. Most of the dominoes are not going to fall until he signs with someone.
The possibility of a trade of Carlson to the Yankees did lose a lot of it’s shine. I’m glad of it. I want to see what Carlson can do with a healed and rehabbed ankle.
The difference b/w Arozarena/Garcia and Tyler O’Neill is that the cardinals gave hardly any major league at bats to Arozarena/Garcia where O’Neill has had ample at bats & seasons to show he is an oft injured inconsistent hitter at best

I’m with Muds, glad Carlson is still here, but he needs to hit righties better.
Carlson is a good 4th OF choice, offering good defensive coverge of CF. If he needed to fill in every day for a while, I don’t like his bat, but that is better than not liking somebody’s glove out there everyday. It gives more flexibility as to the 5th outfielder, since CF ability is not necessary.
A fact that cannot be brushed aside is that we don’t have a good replacement for Carlson in the CF capable 4th outfielder role.

Yes I agree. I think keeping Carlson is the smart move for the Cardinals.
The Yankees got Verdugo and are closing in on a trade for Soto so they definitely don’t need Carlson now.
What about Palacios? And Scott coming on strong.
I wouldn’t want them to bring Scott up to fill the 4th outfielder role and spend a lot of time on the bench.
Palacios would be ok with me, but not sure how it would go over a bigger sample size.

Ken Rosenthal is whining because the Winter Meetings are so boring. I am wondering why he just figured that out.
His solutions include making free agents sign sooner in the off-season and adding restrictions on when trades can be made. That has less than a zero percent chance of happening.
Maybe he will feel better when he can sleep in his own bed again…

Hopefully the Red Sox are wrong and so is this website that said that flattering outlook for young Fernandez.

I agree with Rosenthal’s suggestions. The NBA does this with a tight window for transactions and it makes for an extremely exciting time. MLB prefers the slow agonizing drip of activity. The Winter Meetings could be a real spectacle if structured properly but instead it is just an excuse for the exec’s to get together to swap stories at the breakfast buffet.
