The Players Union will never agree to off-season signing/trade restrictions, so why get worked up over it? And who cares if the Winter Meetings are a spectacle? They are just a point in time that is soon forgotten. If players want to wait until March to sign, that should be their prerogative. Many of them waited a long time for free agency. There are enough artificial rules already.
Brian you are absolutely correct that the MLBPA would be opposed to calendar restrictions on transactions. I just figured MLB would push harder for it since they try to monetize every single aspect of the game now so why not try to squeeze some bucks out of the winter meetings with a ratings boost? Obviously the NBA union is weaker than the MLB union.
Juan Soto trade agreement is being finalized now, source confirms.
The deal, as @JackCurryYES and @Joelsherman1 reported, sends Soto and Trent Grisham to New York for Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and Kyle Higashioka. @MLB@MLBNetwork
