Gant or Gomber goes down, shouldn’t happen. We already have starters Hudson, Poncedeleon, Mayers(came up as a starter) in the bullpen. Shouldn’t be. F.O. doesn’t have confidence in any of them?

Or perhaps they’re watching innings and would rather not they burn their arms out making them start for the big league club when there’s a cheap veteran option? Ross can either go to the pen or be released when Martinez or Wacha come back, so no harm, no foul. It seems like as low as risk move as possible for the front office.

    From VEB:

The bottom line is this: this was a zero-cost move by the Cardinals, essentially, and they’re taking a chance on a guy who has greatness in his past, even if it probably seems a lot longer ago than it actually was. They didn’t trade anything to the Padres for him, and his salary is minimal.

This stuff is true, however that bonus thing for game starts is troubling. Has he been promised x amount of starts to earn some money? That sounds about right. Even if he pitches poorly we might be stuck watching him take the field. Something like running Fowler out there before his injury.

He was picked up off waivers so it’s not like he had any choice? I don’t think Ross had any leverage to say that he’s going to get any starts at all. I’m sure this is insurance against Martinez and Wacha missing the rest of the year.

Mo to Danny Mac (check out their Monday podcast): Ross will work out of the bullpen.

    All that worrying wasted…

Brebbia draws the short straw as Ross is activated.

Write this down. Not to toot my own horn, but I was right for once. Believe me, it doesn’t happen very often.
I thought Ross would be used for multiple inning relief. Shildt seems to favor relievers covering multiple innings. Given his numbers maybe it is his calling? Plus less strain and injury chance with less innings.

Besides it is very Cardinals like to save $200k a start.

Not a fan of tysons acquisition or brebbias demotion.
I expect this “flier” to fail.

Some of the initial reactions on this thread have not aged too well. 😉

6 solid IP on 11 days rest. Appears the rest gave him a chance to reboot.

At the end of tysons club control, we will have the best look back at the initial reactions worthiness.
