Not a huge fan of this Carlson trade for the return, makes you wonder what the Angels and Nationals supposedly offered.

Armstrong has an over 5 ERA….only gave up 1 earned in last 7 innings if you want the half full look

He had 1 dreadful outing in June giving up 6 in 1/3 of an inning to the Nats, kind of sounds like when they acquired Chris Stratton

Agreed with jnevel on the Carlson trade. They could have optioned him, no? That likely would have increased his trade value. And maybe I’m missing something and the Cards will do a little tweak to make Armstrong solid, but on the face of it, I’d rather have Gallegos, Leahy, or Roycroft.

Yes, they could have just optioned Dylan to AAA and hoped playing regularly would improve his performance. I’d rather have had a bit of hope as opposed to a 2-month rental who might not be better than what we had.

Overall, a plus deadline. The Fedde acquisition fills at least a SP3 role thru 2025, but we will expect more.

Bill and Mo got it done, while improving the salary structure for 25′. They added significant pitching, again. No beef here.

If you read between the lines of Mo’s comments posted on the Carlson thread it seems to me that they were probably going to non-tender Carlson this winter so they just decided to get something for him now to help down the stretch. I don’t know if Armstrong will actually help but that seems to be their reasoning.
