Looks like it was Nootbaar. I haven’t found out why Kloffenstein was pulled so that’s odd.

They will need a 27th man on Saturday. With the day off though and going into the All-Star break I assume well see Mikolas(on regular rest) and Gibson(extra day rest) on Saturday, Pallante on Sunday and then the break.

Today I’d have Pallante as SP2 in a postseason series. If we’re buyers, it’s pretending.

I tend to agree, but they have been winning games after a terrible start and in in the Wild Card as of now. They will buy. I don’t expect much, but they will add.

    trivia question:

Without looking😀, who was the last Cardinal SP’r to be credited with a postseason win?

I’d guess Flaherty back in 2019.

That was game 5, my bad. I was reading top down and had Carlos Martinez. Well done.

The last time the Cardinals added pitching at the deadline they were 6 games above .500 and 3 games off the pace in the NLC. At that time they settled on 2 LH’ed SP’ers to help them over the remaining stretch of 60 games. You never really know what goes on inside of that coconut of Johnny’s. He can be pretty sneaky and there’s no telling what he’ll do, but I’d like to see him try to snag a decent RH’ed bat that could possibly push across a few of the baserunners left stranded by our two lackluster performing corner IF’ers.

Aww man, I missed out on the Redbird trivia. I think I may have known the answer to that one only because I recall watching that stupendous 10 run Cardinal first inning in ATL. in a win or go home game. I clearly remember tuning in and settling down to watch that game 5 and by the time the Redbird visitor half of the 1st had concluded, I could not stop laughing…Then, I came back to reality and realized that it was only the first inning at which point I took into account the number 1 rule…”No lead is ever safe”…Haha!

A good Cardinal trivia question that I’ve used multiple times in the past that almost always turns out to be a stumper is, who was the winning pitcher of decision in game 6 of the ’11 WS. The answer is our old friend and “innings eater”, Jake Westbrook, but he only had to eat 1 inning to record that W. Another good one is who led the Cardinals in RBI’s in the ’11 WS…Most people immediately answer incorrectly, David Freese, but the correct answer is Yadier Molina, who pushed 9 runs across HP in that WS. Freese collected 7 RBI’s.

Looks like the vs lefty lineup. Yuck. Hope Winn and Contreras come up big.

He’s entirely disregarding any platoon approach with only 4 RH’ed bats in line to face the DC LH’ed SP’er. That’s highly unusual for my favorite whiz-kid. I’d have guessed both Carlson and Pages would have been in there today, but I guess he wants to get the Nootz into the fray and untracked as soon as possible.

I don’t think the Cardinals should stand pat at the deadline at all. The Phillies and Dodgers are the only teams in the NL that I am confident we would lose to in the playoffs. The others aren’t much better than us at all.

We also don’t have to gut the farm system to get better. I view Herrera and Carlson as surplus parts on this roster therefore could be dealt. Also keep in mind that you don’t always have to make a blockbuster move to get better.

In 2011 we acquired Jackson, Dotel, Scrabble, and Furcal. Obviously those moves worked.
In 2021 we acquired LeBlanc, Happ, and Lester. The team got better.
In 2022 we acquired Monty and Quintana. The team got better.

And in none of those trades did we give up that mutch. Rasmus, Bader and Lane Thomas? Meh..

Oh, I see now, 667. We should score at least a dozen.

A lot of people would disagree, but I thought the key pick up in 2011 was Furcal. I don’t think the Cardinals win anything that season without Raffy. Lester helped in ’21 just by his presense, and Johnny aced 2 SP’ers with Quintana and Montgomery in ’22 as the team really took off immediately after the deadline trades.

I was thinking about this trade earlier with talks of trading Carlson and how it could be a trade resembling trading Rasmus. And Toronto could make some sense again. They could use Carlson and have Bassitt (35, signed through 2025 at $22 million) or Gausman (33, signed though 2026 at $23 million per) as potential SP and have Chad Green or Trevor Richards as RP help. They may not want to part with either SP though and hope to contend next year. But we know Mo will deal with Toronto with 2 deals happening last season.

If Parker is better vs righties, the lineup is upside down. Yuck.

3 lefties in a row put him in play. Gorman single scores.

Siani is a human highlight reel out in CF. The Cincinnati Reds are not looking smart for that DFA.
