Anyone else get the feeling that it’ll take more than 2 runs to win this game?

Kitty pitching the 8th….it doesn’t get much sweeter than that. Meow…..strike that…..Mow them down, Kitty!

Oh oh…..Kitty walks the leadoff hitter and that usually spells t r o u b l e in a game such as this. Then Crow-Armstrong steals 2nd. Morel then flies out to Donovan in short left field…..Burleson would not have caught that ball in all likelihood. Bellinger lines out to Siani in center with Crow-Armstrong motoring over to 3rd. Suzuki strikes out swinging and Kitty extinguishes the cubbie threat….gotta love Kitty.

If Crawford were to go to the IL, then I’m not real certain what the Cards will do about the backup SS. I think they are ok sticking with Fermin or Donovan as the emergency guys, but with Winn needing rest for his back every couple weeks, I’m not loving having one of those backups for all 9. The next man up would be Arquemides Gamboa. But he’s not on the 40-man and he would be a very fringe big leaguer.

Lousy baseball not to get the sac-bunt down after the lead-off BB in a 1 run game.

Keegan Thompson pitching for Chicago here in the 9th.

Pedro Pages on 3-2 walks. Siani strikes out…..he could not bunt Pedro over and that stings a little. Winn reaches 1st on the force play and Winn tweeked something……let’s pray that’s not serious in nature.

Winn is fine. It was the Cubs 1B Busch that tweaked something.

Haap leads off bottom of the 9th. That guy just kills us again and again. Let’s hope his luck against the Cards starts to even out.

Oh goodie, thanks for the correction, Jnevel.

Now when Helsley pitches today we want no drama whatsoever. Just set them down 1….2……3…….no walks, no hits, no errors…..no nothing but outs.
This game really fooled me, as I thought it would take 6+ runs to win this game…..Jimmy the Greek I’m not.

Ouch! Happ draws the leadoff walk. Then Hoerner flies out routinely to Carlson in right. Happ steals 2nd on a great jump. Busch strikes out looking on a super late, but totally cool, tardy call by the home plate ump. Swanson walks and it’s now up to our old pal Patrick Wisdom….

I like Helsley okay, but a closer who puts runners aboard via the BB is no good.

Wow. About lost that one. Donovan with a good catch. Helsley had an obvious strike 3 prior to that.

In the end our anemic offense holds up.

Oh my that was strike 3…..right down Broadway……but then Donovan makes a nice running catch in left to preserve the win. Thank God we had Donny in left field today and boy did Miles deserve the win today.

    Final Score:

    Cards 2
    cubbies 1

It got a little scary at the end but that’s a winner! Taking two out of three at Wrigley is sweet! On to Miami.

My goodness…Redbirds get hosed on the nonstrike 3 call and then Donovan saves us from disaster on the drive to LF from Wisdom! Poetic justice and a 2-1 W for the Redbirds!

Takes the STing out of yesterday’s game. I’m totally bi-polar about this team. I try to get out-than they reel me back in!

Hard to believe, but if the Mets hold on to a 7-4 8th inning lead over the Padres, the Cardinals will take sole possession of the 2nd NLWC.

Haha…I’d say baseball is by nature a bipolar game, KCB. Sometimes it’s manic/depressive day by day and sometimes pitch by pitch.

The Brewers are clinging to a 5-4 8th inning lead over the Reds. I wonder if Counsell wishes he’d stayed in MIL?

And the Brewers do hang on for the 5-4 triumph, TD. I’ve heard that many cubbie fans have not been enamored with their new skipper thus far. As far as the NL wild card race is concerned, Atlanta is very catchable for that #1 slot…..with only about 90 games to go.

Looking at the bright side…only 2 divisions with smaller divisions leads the Milwaukee has on us. Lots of runaway division leaders
