A 1 out walk to Crawford……Pedro strolling towards the dish…..let’s stay with matters shall we?

Pages goes deep sea fishing on a Taillon curve for strike 3……no problemo Pedro, you’ll stroke another long one next time.

Siani flies out to Happ in left to retire the side and we are definitely going to need more runs, even with Miles pitching as magnificently as he is.

Will be scoreboard watching from Coors Field today as my son and I are taking in the Rockies-Pirates tilt. Former Redbird Dak Hudson starts against what Inhope will be Paul Skenes. It is his turn but the Bucs show the infamous TBD as starting. That guys seems to play for everyone! 😁

I saw Hudson start here as a Cardinal either last year or in ‘22 – think it was last year. He was not very good that day as his command was poor. That is what would plague him, otherwise he has good stuff.

Saw Pages hit another one! He’s making a case to stick even when Contreras comes back. If we are buyers in a month or so, I wonder if Herrera might be used as trade material?

Miles yields 4th inning singles to Trachman and Suzuki and then a feeble infield single to Happ to load the bases with 2 out for Hoerner……Nico grounds out 6-4…..but that puppy is unfortunately going to be reversed….it’ll be a 2-1 ballgame shortly.

Mikolas gets out of the bases loaded jam in the last of the 4th.

    Dodged a bullit there.

Pugs? Yahoo Sports/MLB shows it’s a 2-0 game in the top of the 5th with the count 1-0 on Winn???

Sweet! The call stands and thus so does the Cardinal 2-0 advantage. To me the replay showed safe at 2nd base…..so glad I was wrong.

Hope you get to see Skenes pitch today, BicycleMike. Our old pal DizzyDean17 was in attendance to see Skenes pitch in Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago…..I think it was vs SF.

Need to get 6 frames out of Miles today. He’s sitting at 64 pitches with 1 out in the cub 5th.

Miles sets them down in one pretty little 1-2-3 chorus line in the 5th. With the way he’s been pitching the last month, I’d walk a mile to see Miles pitch…..and leave the camel at home…..you youngsters won’t get that one.

Cool man. I plan on seeing our Redbirds play in Pittsburgh in late July. Have a road trip planned that I mentioned awhile back, in conjunction with hitting the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland. Will talk more about it as we get closer. Maybe some of our TCN members are in an area I will be traveling though and we can meet up for lunch or dinner or some such nonsense.

Boy we had Taillon on the ropes early, but he was able to re-steady himself. This will be his last inning as he’s logged 93 pitches thru 6.

Brings back memories. I remember those Lark commercials where a truck would be traveling in some unnamed city with a big sign that read “Lark smokers, show us your Larks.” Random people would see it and pull their pack of Larks out and hold them up.

If I still lived in Cleveland, I would have definitely taken you up on that, BicycleMike. While in Cleveland, besides your baseball event and the Rock & Roll HoF, you should take a cruise our into the eastern suburbs….some beautiful areas out there.

Miles once again……I’m sounding like a beautiful broken record today…..sets them down 1-2-3. Heading to the 7th.

It will be interesting to see if Mikolas is on the hill for the 7th. It is getting close to Kitty-Jo Jo-Hesley time.

Smyle center stage for Chicago in the Cardinal 7th. And he attempts to take a page straight out of Miles’ book by setting us down in order, but with 2 out Burleson raps a base hit to right. Goldy then grounds out to 3rd to retire the side. I’m getting worried as I still don’t think these 2 runs are going to hold up. Even with Gibson pitching against Jenkins, 2 runs do not hold up in Wrigley with the winds blowing decently out to left.

In regards to those old cigarette ads, remember the anti smoking ad with the cartoon guy who used his last match to light the fuse on the dynamite? He lit the fuse and then wanted to sit back and enjoy a smoke but had to chase down the lit fuse for a light. He ends up chasing it all the way to the stick of TNT and it explodes in his face with the caption, “Some guys will do anything for a cigarette”…Haha!

Never saw that one, TD. My most memorable cigarette commercials were the “I’d walk a mile for a Camel” and “I’d rather fight than switch”(Lucky Strike) campaigns.

I think the black eye fight or switch ads were for Tareytons, Pugs. At any rate, those smokes will hurt you more than a black eye…Haha!

“Tareytons”…..wow I think you’re right, TD. Boy does that bring back memories. I think Salem had commercials too, but can’t recall them. And of course all of us seasoned posters recall the Marlboro man commercials.

cubs get one run in the 7th, still 2-1 Cards.

Check out all of the empty seats behind home plate. They need their own version of Front Row Amy to fill those seats up I guess. I know our very own RatsBuddy would walk not one, but a thousand miles to rub elbows with her.

Yeah, there were a ton of cigarette and cigar ads. Both TV and print were saturated with them. I also recall both Earl Campbell and Walt Garrison being the primary spokesmen for Skoal. My dad was hooked on cigars and my uncle smoked cigarettes. Those things got the best of both of them.

Looks like Crawford hurt his left leg or hip on that swing…..and he’s not continuing in this game. Fermin pinch hitting for him and he’ll inherit a 2-1 count and then promptly foul out to Busch at 1st base. Heading to the bottom of the 8th in a 2-1 St. Louis ballgame.
