A local Cajun food truck stops my a brew pub my wife and I drop in to now and then. They have a combo platter that includes the catfish fiddlers – well, not sure if they are playing a fiddle but they have catfish as part of the combo and they are indeed tasty.

And it seems no one but Ollie and presumably some office wonks understand the lineups. If this was 1954 instead of 2024 and Ollie was time warped as our manager he would undoubtedly have Stan hitting second.

    Well phooey!

Me and Whitey Herdog sat down on the couch to watch the Orioles and Reds from Crosley Field. I even lit up a cigar. Then lo and behold the game is in a rain delay. I checked the Weather Channel and it looks like it might be awhile. I could have watched into the 7th inning or so before tuning over to the White Sox and Redbirds. But not now.

I guess I’ll take an early shower and save the cigar for the start of the ChiSox and Cards game. Atlanta is at the Dodgers tonight so that means another late cigar. Then at the conclusion of the Braves/Dodgers game it will be time for Barnaby Jones. Which means another real late cigar.

I can’t figure out the Contreras at #2 in the lineup thing.

.373 OBP and only 1 GIDP all year so far. Perfect for #2 ahead of what should be the RBI guys at 3,4,5.

Like the Yankees batting Judge second a lot last year. Had a .400+ OBP and only 5 GIDPs all year. 448 PAs batting second.

blingboy, Contreras strikes out too much for a #2 hitter.

Don’t have to worry about Matz for a minute or two. He signed up for the 15 day IL with his last turn.

Winn, auto-out, Donovan is better for Contreras than hitting 5th behind bronze busts. If you get anything from auto-out, it’s a landslide.

The objective is to economize outs, not to arbitrarily minimize one particular type of out to the exclusion (or expense) of everything else.

This ought to be an exciting 3 games as we get another look at Pham and DeJong this weekend.

We had just sat for a late BLT lunch and just caught the Brewers vs Cubs ending. MIL chaining those hits and stolen bases was pretty neat to watch.

Love the way Arenado jumped on that first pitch that was right there.

Economical 1st inning for Gray with only 7 pitches. Some of you may be aware that the Big League record for fewest pitches in a 9 inning game is 58, set by Red Barrett while he was pitching for the Boston Braves in 1944. Barrett’s best season was in 1946 when he won 21 games against only 9 losses for the Cardinals.

That was actually 1945 that Barrett had his big year 1TD. Looked like Noot should have had that – took a bad route.

It sure was 1945, Bikemike. He also had 5 decisions with Boston in ’45 in which he had 2 wins against 3 losses. At any rate, I never saw him work…Haha!

I’ve seen enough of Gray to be reasonably confidant that 2 or 3 runs may be enough against the team he’s working to tonight.

Edman sitting in the dugout chewing the fat with Gibson. Is Tommy going to pitch or is Kyle going to get some IF time?
