The great Osborne Earl Smith. Have a couple of Ozzie stories. Road tripped it to the Lou in the ‘80s for some games. Took my son who was 7 or 8 at the time. After a game, a Cardinal win, we kicked around downtown for awhile and Ozzie was walking maybe 20 feet away with his family. He was carrying a toddler and had a couple of other kids and his wife with him. I yelled out to him “Nice game Ozzie!” He responded back, “Hey, thanks man!”

A few years ago I met him at a collectibles show. I told him that when we traded for him … and he goes, “I don’t know, Templeton…” And I am like, “Yeah, we had Templeton, a Southern California guy who wanted to play in Southern California. Now we get another Southern California guy – he will just leave after a couple of years.” Ozzie laughed and I said, “Thanks for sticking around.” He loved it and was such an easy guy to chat with.

So back to the game, heck with the three runs, will we get three hits??

If you are getting mowed down by a guy with a 5.32 ERA coming into the game you may have met rock bottom

You can put a fork in this game down 3-0 top 5

Yeah, Bikemike, the schedule no longer seems what could even be termed legitimate. The multiple divisions along with interleague play have effectively eliminated genuine rivalries. In the days of the old NLE, the Cardinals played each divisional opponent 18 times during the season. Plenty of head to head competition was afforded to cut into a deficit in the standings.

Man, Goldy just doesn’t do much these days. You wonder if he could have come through in that first game of the Milwaukee series what that might have done for him.

Herrera watches strike three right there. He was frustrated but man, what is it when you don’t swing at pitches that are hittable. Seems like they are thinking too much rather than just letting it happen.

Contro just swung at ball 3…..then hits a lazy fly to short center that Usain Bolt couldn’t score on.

Well that’s 2 runs…..need a bunch more. Pfaadt exits with 1 out and runners at 1st & 2nd in a 3-2 Arizona ballgame. Pfaadt can win it and he can also lose it if his pen falters. Scotty McGough the new AZ. hurler here in the 6th.

Darn twin killing kills our chances to add on more 6th inning tallies. 3-2 Diamondbacks.

It was nice of Arizona to walk the bases loaded so we could score on just our second hit of the night.

Kitty on to pitch the 7th. I absolutely adore Kitty……we should call him “The Untouchable”.

Very generous. He must really like his pen.

Anyone know if Kitty could be stretched out? He might be the starter we so desperately covet. He reminds me of that big horse that the cubbies acquired from Cleveland mid-season back in around ’84, who was lights out……can’t think of his name, but he was a dandy.

Goldy launches one and ties it.
