Din-din tonight was homemade tacos and refried beans, washed down with iced tea and finished off with a bowl of strawberries (very un-French I’m afraid). I have no lineup suggestions. except for a couple guys I would like to see hitting 11th or 12th.

Speaking of strawberries, I bought a strawberry pie today out at the Amish restaurant where I have my catfish fiddlers. Come to think of it, I bought some strawberries and glaze at the grocery store earlier today. I am going to be up to my ears in strawberries for awhile.r/Esteemed Rat
If you bat a .180 hitter second you are not trying to win. Maybe OlliMo thinks the second slot holds some magical juju so that PAs there will get a guy going better than PAs down in the order. It doesn’t matter how much damage it does to the offense now, or how many games it might cost now. If that magic 2nd slot juju gets him going, he will contribute to the offense later, once it doesn’t matter any more because we’ve racked up too many losses to come back. I feel like everybody else is playing to win and we’re working on stuff. (His SLG is .227, btw).
What will it take to move Goldy off the 2 spot to something like 5 of 6? If Oli and Mo need the L R L R L cadence in their lineup, then Winn’s sporting a hot bat, he’s hit at the top of the lineup his entire career prior to the Majors. I think he should get a 4-6 game look at 2 or 1 in the lineup.

We stopped by Missouri Hick BBQ and stocked up. Smoked brisket sandwiches tonight. Picked up a tub of beans, slaw and potatoe salad. Tangy dill pickles and sliced red onion on the side. I think the wifey knows how to make it easy on herself, and I know what’s on the menu for the weekend!

That’s before the wifey gets ahold of it. I’ve always liked brisket on a wheat hoagie w/provolone. Very little BBQ sauce.
Gorman the strike out king has moved down, at least sometimes, so there is a small bit of hope that lineup sanity will prevail. But there are 26 million reasons why it won’t.
I have said for 2-3 years now that Goldschmidt should not – NOT – be hitting in the #2 slot. I am sure Herzog would have told Oli the same thing.
I guess the rationale is that if he hits #2 he might get 50 more plate appearances than if he hits #3 over the course of a year.

I know the Cardinals are kind of committed to play certain players right now. But from what I saw, Burleson looked better with one swing in the the whole Oakland series than some other players did in multiple ABs in the entire series. An it was coming into the game, cold, against a flame-thrower. Burly’s lefty bat should starting be in the lineup, somewhere, tonite against the outstanding RHP, Peralta.
I would blame the lineup optimization algo, which is part of the analytics department, the output of which informs game planning and in game decisions, as Mo has stated in the past. It probably doesn’t see Goldy’s current numbers, taking a longer term view. Never mind that he turns 37 this year and most players are done by then, so those longer term numbers may not be predictive of present performance. Momentum doesn’t exist and streaks are random, so the most likely thing that will happen today is he will hit like his old 34 year old MVP self. But I will not say any of that or I will get accused of seeing a wonk behind every tree. I’m sure there is a different explanation for batting a .180 hitter second, over and over, which I would like to hear.
Winn needs to be rewarded for his complete offensive turnaround. Batting him 7th or 8th is like giving him a large box of fruit cake for his efforts. We should win tonight. I’m calling it 6-4 Birds, with Nooty sending one sailing out of the park with a man on board for the ride.
Din-din tonight was a trip over to the local VFW for cod and catfish fiddlers, cole slaw, fries, buttered rolls and two pieces of Dutch apple pie.
Goldy’s seeing the best pitches possible from that lineup spot, but batting second is a great place to put a hot hitter too, for the same reason.
ZiPS is projecting .260/.349/.434/.783 with a 115 wRC+ for the remainder of the season, so I doubt the Cardinals’ internal models are projecting anything remotely close to Goldschmidt’s 2022 season going forward. It should be noted that the third-party models correctly projected significant regression for Goldy after 2022 as 1) he had a fair amount of good luck that season, and 2) the models incorporate aging curves into their projections. Of course, no model claims to predict or forecast what will happen in a single game or handful of games as that’s far too random for anyone (including the manager, FO, or fans) to know.

They are gonna bat 20 times and get 3 maybe 4 on a goodnight hits! That makes offense and scoring runs difficult! They other 4 have to carry us! You just can’t win consistently with over half your team batting between 100 and 200!Nootbar currently batting 211! I spent quite a bit of time this evening checking out the other MLB lineups! The only other 2 line ups tonight with 5 hitters hitting 215 or less are the A’s with 6 and the CWS with 7! What they have in common with us is obvious! That many players that can’t hit in the line up, you ain’t gonna win often!

Today’s financial structure in baseball is such that star players in the second half of their careers are often paid for past performance, and up-and-coming players are often underpaid.
Goldy, Nado, Contreras, most of our starting pitchers are paid primarily for what they have done in the past. It is different in most of the working world as older employees have a lot of legacy knowledge to go with an increased skill set and are worth more to an organization than younger ones. But in baseball, your highest salary is quite often in your years of declining production.
