I haven’t been able to watch as much lately. How has Scott been looking in CF? On his original call up he looked ok not great, but he has the tools to be great out there.

Scott looks much better all around, ATM. I was not all that impressed with his defense in his April time, but he looks better this time.

And he looks much better at the plate. Seems to be making better contact and shows a bit more discipline and confidence. Doesn’t get the bat knocked out of his hands.

I was skeptical when he was brought up, but he looks good considering how young he is and how fast he has come through the system. It will be interesting in the coming year or two to see who ends up filling the center field role, him or Siani. They have similar skill sets.

Scott’s line since being called up. .211/.211/421/.632. OPS+ 65. K rate 31.5%.

I agree that is much better than April. It is a small sample, but that cuts both ways.

I’d expect Scott’s line to not be any better than what Bling posted above – probably settling in a little worse than that. That’s playable (especially since we have few alternatives) and it’s a lot better than the first time around. But it’s not at all good. Maybe the defense will be good enough to make him average overall.

Scott’s line is good enough to set up a theoretical battle for CF next spring training. Siani could well be a one season wonder and hit the ground with a thud next year, but odds are he wins out and Scott opens in Memphis. Or Mo somehow acquires a starting CF significantly better than what Siani projects as, which I don’t think will happen unless and until Siani flops in ST. The platoon aspect of the outfielders is a concern though. Take advantage of platoon advantage when working your 4th into the mix, but don’t start with an outfield that features a platoon, or two, or three.

Scott is going to have to add walks, but it’s also not easy as a rook, battling for strike zone calls. He can’t be just BAbip dependent.

Siani is in the same boat. He needs to double his walk rate and Scott is half of Sinai’s, currently.

The CF obp is a concern now, but both are capable of a better walk rates over a larger sample. How much better is the variable.

Edman has been slightly under a league avg BB% for his career. He sports a career .319 obp. Not the greatest, but it’s where we hope Scott and Siani get to.

Either way, Siani or Scott, the OBP is a long way way from the speedy top of the order guy we dream about. I agree .319 is reasonable to hope for, but that is not top of the lineup. Winn has some speed, but at least for now, is not shaping as a big SB threat from the leadoff slot. I guess ML is not MiLB in that area as well.

Funny I’ve been thinking about this Siani V Scott question. Siani is 25 Scott is 23. That’s the only stat I’m using here. The rest is eyeball so you are welcome to refute my opinion with fact. So advantage Scott in the age dept. Siani looks to be the better fielder at this point. He’s just so natural. Scott is 2nd fastest guy in league. Siani 119. I guess i lied. There’s another fact. Ok. Im sure I will get plenty of rotten vegetables thrown my way. But offensively I think Scott will turn out to be the much better player. At this juncture, Siani is better. But that’s because he’s a smarter hitter at this point. Scott will catch up and exceed Siani. Scott will utilize his speed and become an everyday player. I take Scott.

Right now neither has the obp to lead off, much like Winn last season, but you can see all three developing. Walks will help.

You are right JJ. OBP is everything for V Scott dos. I have visions of Vince Coleman flying around the bases if this guy learns to get on base.

Yes, he is the one that stole a ton of bases in the minor leagues. He pilfered 94 of them in 2023.

Goldschmidt looked good with the rip he put on that 2 run tater. There’s always the possibility that the Cardinals will allow him to move on to another team and he’ll put a season up on the board that’ll make them wish they’d kept him in StL.
