Waino pitched a great game. I was wondering if that standing ovation last night for Sanchez was because he did such a good job blanking us or that they were glad he was leaving the game?
October 12, 2019 at 5:29 pm #111437I just don’t understand why they didn’t bring Miller in for Eaton.
October 12, 2019 at 5:29 pm #111438Was bad decision to let waino pit h to Eaton who hasn’t hit waino very well.
October 12, 2019 at 5:40 pm #111439Again, why is Carpenter in the lineup? And why does he bat against a LHP in the 8th? I forgot what the return is for weakening 3 defensive positions.
Bad luck Edman, he just made some nice contact but Eaton with a jumping catch. Shildt really needs to try to inject some life in the lineup and move his spark plug to the top of the order next game. Fowler leading off is not going to get them there. At this stage, Shildt needs to try something different, even if it’s wrong.
October 12, 2019 at 5:45 pm #111440Cards get a run. Avoid the shut out.
October 12, 2019 at 5:46 pm #111441Finally a run! JMart worked a 10-pitch AB off Doolittle for a liner that Taylor misplays in CF to score DeJong. Then Fowler follows up with a weak pop to shallow RF on the 1st pitch to kick off a chorus of boos as the 8th inning ends.
October 12, 2019 at 5:47 pm #111442I mean this take is going to get roasted but what about arozarena in center?
October 12, 2019 at 5:49 pm #111443Fowler is in a very deep slump. He has been especially vulnerable against lefties. Why not Arozerena.
October 12, 2019 at 5:50 pm #111444Yeah Euro, I was thinking bout that this morning. I’m guessing this us the line up from Atlanta. Dexters bat has been dead in this series. Seems like Edman needs to lead off and play third.
October 12, 2019 at 5:50 pm #111445Sounds good to me GACard. Need to put Carp back in a pinch hitter role and get Fowler out of the lead off spot. Need Edman at or near the top of the order. If not Aroz, I’d go back to Bader, he hit the ball hard twice in Game 5 in Atlanta. Some infusion of energy is needed to set a different tone. Shildt shouldn’t sleep on it any longer.
October 12, 2019 at 5:55 pm #111446We need the Comeback Cardinals to appear! Need some base runners.
October 12, 2019 at 5:59 pm #111447Helsley has had a helluva postseason.
October 12, 2019 at 6:03 pm #111448Goldy caught a hanger but couldn’t hit it
October 12, 2019 at 6:04 pm #111449Game over. The hill to climb is really steep now. Hitters need to step it up. For that matter, Shildt needs to raise his game a lot too. Martinez seems to be making all the right moves and Shildt has missed a couple.
October 12, 2019 at 6:06 pm #111450We have to beat Strasburg and scherzer 2 of 3 and win the other two. Gonna take a lot. This was a must win
October 12, 2019 at 6:06 pm #111451That’s the story of the entire season. Just can’t hit worth a damn.
October 12, 2019 at 6:09 pm #111452Miko and Waino did their part. Our hitters need to get it going and make this a best of 3. But first things first… we have to win game 3
October 12, 2019 at 6:10 pm #111453Game over, sires over probably in 4 now
October 12, 2019 at 6:14 pm #111454Soul searching time for Shildt … does he stick with the line up he has used the last two games or make adjustments? Offense not making much noise at all. Only one run in eighteen innings and that was on a misplayed fly ball. Yikes!
October 12, 2019 at 6:20 pm #111455Mo and the rest of those in charge will probably want the team kept intact for next year. Their reasoning is that most players had bad years this year save Wong, Molina, and Edman. Goldschmidt, Ozuna, DeJong, Carpenter, Fowler, and Bader all had bad years. They will argue they expect them to return to normalcy next year and that could propel the Cards to bigger and better things.
There could be some logic behind that reasoning. But then again, Ozuna may fly the coop so who knows.

October 12, 2019 at 6:24 pm #111456I know odds and history are stacked against us having lost the first 2 games at home and coming back to win the series but I don’t really care about that. I just know we are capable and until all outs are used for the 2019 season, we have a fighting chance. GO Cardinals.
October 12, 2019 at 7:26 pm #111457Rats I loved your appraisal of our current condition. Guess its my cynical sense of humor. We do need to finish this year before next year. Mathematically I agree with Dave and we all know it will be gigantic to take it from here.Only thing to do now is play it out best we can and maybe things will turn around. I would think Edman needs to lead off and JMart needs to be in the lineup. Baders been sittin for a while and may have more luck hitting than Dexter , don’t really know. Anyway its broke so its time to fix it.
October 12, 2019 at 7:27 pm #111458The offense has been streaky all year, but we have won some of the low scoring contests with small ball (speed and moving runners) and defense.
The problem with the club this year has been the good old stat that has lost it’s luster with the advanced metrics gurus, and that is batting average. When you do not have anyone that can consistently put the ball in play and get a hit 3 to 3 1/4 times in 10 tries, then it is difficult to generate offense. JMart might be the best at that, but his game is one-dimensional. Now with the power we have, we will get into a streak of a few games where runs come in bunches. But with a bunch of .240-.260 hitters, we can be dominated.
After the 20+ inning scoreless streak, we are due to break out soon. Better be games three and four.
October 12, 2019 at 7:28 pm #111459We have met the enemy and he is Us! Go Cardinals!
October 12, 2019 at 8:00 pm #111460When you are outhit, you usually lose.
Also, when your starters have just pitched a bunch of quality starts in quick succession, you are due for for a few not so quality starts. I hope we can defy that a bit longer, but it will be a moot point if we don’t start hitting.
