What weird play…Carpenter with the warning track shot that’s misplayed by the Oakland CF. Carpenter ends up on third and the Cards are up 2-1.
Now Dejong doubles home Carp. I guess ole Pugs played the slyest trick in the book..declaring our dear Redbirds dead in the 2nd only for them to pile on a few runs instead.
Chris Bassitt. I grew up with a wonderful female Bassitt Hound named “Maude” as a kid. Then as an adult, I switched to the best looking creature on the planet…..the elegant and majestic male white German Shepherd. On my 3rd one…..and speaking of “3rd”, the A’s leave a runner stranded at 1st in a 3-1 Cardinal ballgame.
Carp’s “”triple”” sure was gift wrapped nicely by their centerfielder, RememberDiz. It will undoubtedly be the play responsible for a big “W” put in the Cardinals ledger tonight. Maybe that one play….or misplay, will get Carp off the proverbial schneid too.

Main man for Oakland is J. B. Wendelken….gotta look this up as it appears this young man has 4 first names in his full name….we await the findings…..indeed,first name is “Jeffrey”….middle name is “Benjamin”….and his last name has a “Wendel” and a “Ken”…..that’s what I call hitting for the cycle, as far as full names go.
Ugh. Flaherty gives up way way too many home runs for someone with his above average stuff. Is it focus? Lack of command? Tipping? It’s insanity.
Semien silences the crowd with a solo blast to left….4-3 A’s…..does Jack really have to surrender multiple home runs nearly every game out! And now everybody but the A’s batboy is getting in on the hit parade as consecutive singles has A’s perched on the corners with just 1 out.

The Semien homer was whacked to center and not left….like it makes a frosting difference.
Flaherty is in a rut now. Maybe he needs a trip to Memphis to try to get a little confidence back, with Ponce to take a few starts.
A’s chase Flaherty here in the 5th with Oakland now owning the scoreboard 5-3. Still very very early…..as I gaze into my crystal ball I see….great wealth and health….no no that’s what this Palm Reader told me the other day for the bargain basement price of 100 clams…..no I see the Birds winning by the score of 11-10.

Jeffrey Benjamin Wendel Ken is in line to earn the victory if Oakland hangs on to their 4 run lead. Flaherty would be saddled with the loss, and by golly he deserves it after that hideous 5th inning. But, as stated earlier, we have a lot of baseball yet to be played here this evening…..a lot of baseball!
Flaherty now has a 4.75 ERA. Unfortunately, the peripherals don’t look much better. Brebbia didn’t help by immediately surrendering two more runs when he came in, continuing his recent slide. Is there any chance this team can score 8 tonight? I think it’s a very slim one.

It’s at least lack of command. I alluded to wasting pitcher’s counts earlier by throwing easy takes. That can be lack of command (out of zone) or lack of trust in your stuff. The middle-middle gift to Siemen on an 0-2 count is definitely lack of command (in the zone), but might also include lack of focus. Whatever, he’s not a good starter this year. Even when he pitches well for much of a game, he still spoils it with bad mistakes.
Brebbia’s wheels have fallen off. Dead arm phase due to overuse? Or are we about to hear some news worse than that?
