Embarrassing to watch a Cardinal team this inept with the bat. Sadly I see it all year then watch the BS flow from the front office.
Ponce had been pretty stingy with his pitches until he faced Castro. Castro is single handedly ruining his night with a 10 pitch at bat.
The irony of this is, considering how awful we have played the last month and half, without any offense to speak of, an inconsistent bullpen, with a win today, we’d only be 1.5 games back of both the division and wild card.
Edman with the aggressive steal attempt and Anderson’s flailing tag can’t connect in time. Now Carp better make em pay.
Marp is responsible for over a quarter of the pitches thrown by Richards. Wearing em down…and it leads to a looking strikeout. The second time since I tuned in that the Cards stare at a 3rd strike with a runner on third. Sigh.
Ponce squeezed out of two strikes in that at bat. Cy Yamamoto and Cy Richards don’t get squeezed there. He got the out but it took more work than it should have.
Dave, I agree. If I heard correctly, the announcers said earlier that the Cardinals have the best record in June of any NL Central team at 9-7. The Redbirds could really gain some ground if they could string some wins together.
What is it about Ponce where all these guys foul so many pitches off? He get the K of Richards but again…it was labor.
Granderson has been trouble all game. He’s got a shot to put the Marlins into what would feel like an insurmountable lead right here. Ponce gets a nice break on the “foul tip.” 0-0, bottom 6th.
A nice moment there as Ravelo collects his first career hit. Another shot for the Cards with a man on third. Will Dexter be the one to get the clutch hit?
I agree greyghost, We definitely need a lead off hitter. I would like to see Wong or Bader. Try it out for a couple weeks. I can’t imagine they’d be any worse. It’s rimes like this when I really miss past leadoff hitters like Vince Coleman. He would probably get on more than Carp does and I mean the age he is now.
It’s funny, Carp was offered the extension based on what he did in June and July, last year but if I remember correctly we entered September only 2.5, maybe 3.5 from the top spot and in the Month of September, he hit 1 HR, batted 170 so I guess you can look at that 2 ways. 1- as carp goes, so do the Cards. 2- Carp failed to come thru when we needed him most.
