Can anyone actually recall Fowler’s last hit???? I’m done with him!!! Cut him loose immediately and let’s get O’Neill the ML at bats that he needs.

Participantwell finally got to sit down and watch the game which I was recording but now up to live. lousy pitching. only five innings out of our starter and leone and reyes weren’t very good. our offense has been putrid. you would think that being at home with a packed stadium and being the home opener would give these guys some inspiration. maybe we should put the guys wearing red jackets out there, they probably would do better. now we got brebbia on the mound plus fowler out of the lineup so that’s good. brebbia has been our best pitcher by far this year, the fact hes not been used in more key situations boggles me. after two solid years, I don’t know why it seems he has to prove himself when others get a pass. good job brebbia. you were so good you got the inning done before I could finish.

stlcard25ParticipantI really think Reyes is mentally off and not getting those calls against the second hitter that inning did him in. Perhaps he simply doesn’t trust his arm yet after all the injuries and may well need some seasoning in Memphis, after all.
April 5, 2019 at 5:51 pm #86038Here’s a free tip for Shildt:
Next time the game is tied in the late innings, call on Brebbia. Next time you’re down by several runs late, then call on Reyes to work out his kinks.

Participanta ball three feet off the plate and oneil swings at it. just dandy.
April 5, 2019 at 5:52 pm #86040Very sound advice Euro! Hope he listens to you.

Participantway to go goldy, at least we still have a shot.
April 5, 2019 at 5:58 pm #86044
stlcard25ParticipantMan, it doubly hurts that Marp and O’Neill both struck out on pitches out of the strike zone. Good on Goldy though.
April 5, 2019 at 5:59 pm #86046Reyes did get squeezed with the first two batters where a ball should have been a strike. But he was also missing several feet off the plate.

Participantwell stlcard25, in defense of carpenter, that was a real tough pitch. oneil was just silly.
April 5, 2019 at 6:01 pm #86048Cards with only 1 strikeout in the first 5 innings. Now they’ve struck out 5 times in the last 3 innings.
April 5, 2019 at 6:01 pm #86049I agree with other posters, Reyes needs to go back to Memphis and when he can throw strikes get the call back.
And I said multiple times on here that I was worried about the fact that both Reyes and Hicks walk a lot of batters. Its reared its ugly head already this year, more than once.

April 5, 2019 at 6:01 pm #86050Not a very inspiring first 7 games. Maybe this team wasn’t quite as close to being a playoff team as last years hot August made us all think. Maybe it’s just a bad first week. After last three years when the same problems show early they’re not going to get the benefit of the doubt
Still early, but hard to get your hopes up when they won’t put the best players on the field/mound

Participantfrom what ive seen blackhills, the strike zone has been pretty straight forward and I felt reyes pitches were just off the regular zone. the bad thing wasa he got ahead of the first guy but didn’t go after him and just let him get away. when runners get on, reyes really struggles. at least that’s my impression so far.
April 5, 2019 at 6:07 pm #86053Brebbia showing that good things happen when you throw strikes
April 5, 2019 at 6:09 pm #860541982 willie
Participantwell can we pull off a stunner here, brebbia gave us a shot.
April 5, 2019 at 6:09 pm #86055Brebbia looking good.
April 5, 2019 at 6:11 pm #860561982 willie
Participanthey the guy that should be starting in right field for us finally gets a shot. come on Martinez.
April 5, 2019 at 6:12 pm #860571982 willie
Participantwell that was sad, maybe tomorrow.
April 5, 2019 at 6:24 pm #86058Willie, Reyes’ threw a pitch that was called a ball to both of the first two guys he faced but according to MLB Gameday it was a strike. However, he was also pretty wild at the same time missing the plate by several feet. You are not gonna get the close calls when your that wild.
April 5, 2019 at 6:40 pm #860591982 willie
Participantwell blackhills he was wild but he started off with 0-2 count to the first guy. he then got wild, went to 3-2, a couple foul balls, then walk. that to me got him in trouble in my eyes because he doesn’t pitch well with guys on in my eyes at least so far. now far as what you said about the pitches being a strike per mlb gameday, im assuming you mean the box. the umpires set the strike zone not the box or mlb gameday. as long as the umpire is consistent to all, I have no problems and I felt this umpire was. as far as pitchers being wild not getting calls. I agree though ive seen wild pitchers get borderline pitches so it isn’t always the case. just in my eyes, based on the strike zone of the day, he wasn’t that close. but people see things differently.
April 5, 2019 at 6:45 pm #86060Reyes really looked pretty good until the HPU hosed him a couple of times. Actually Machado got on base at least twice on strikes called balls. Pretty small strike zone with some exceptions. I have not yet seen an umpire that can consistently call a low pitch as a ball or strike. Another reason for electronic calling of pitches.
Really frosted that Fox Sport Midwest is bumping the Cards to the FS Plus tomorrow when the sked shows it to be on the main FSM station. The Blues don’t have half the audience of the Cardinals so why give them the prime spot especially on game #2 at home. I don’t have FS Plus but the wife says she just found it is also going to be on Fox Sports Go. That may work for us but not as good as the main channel. I’ll bet McCarver is in the booth for the next two games so it won’t matter to much to me as the mute button will be depressed for the entire game.
April 5, 2019 at 7:11 pm #86061Minuteman, the Blues are also in the playoffs, there’s less than a handful of regular season games remaining, and a lot of fans jump on the bandwagon this time of year.
Willie, no the HPU wasn’t consistent on his calls.
April 5, 2019 at 8:01 pm #86068I have to agree about the home plate umpiring so far this year. Balls and strikes have been bad, very inconsistent. And even worse, just plain bad calls.
I told this girl one time to come and go to a game with me. I told her we could watch the Homeplate umpire and she asked why. I told she I would kiss her on the strikes and she could kiss me on the ………..
