Knizner has looked spry back there, managing to get in front of everything Waino and now Hicks have thrown.

    Now a walk.

Ugh, a free pass issued by Hicks to Contreras with one out after being ahead in the count. Hopefully Hicks has some of that workaround magic that Wainwright had.

Hicks has totally lost the zone. Now Heyward gets a solid hit after Hicks went 3-0 on him. Get somebody else in now.

Hicks is struggling to hit the zone now. He fats one to Heyward and it’s 1st and 3rd with one out.

    Gant is warming up.

It should’ve been Gant to begin with.

Gant gets Russell on a fielder’s choice, one run scores. Now it’s down to the last out with the tying run on 1B. Bote up.

Gant in to stanch the bleeding. Addison Russell is the batter…Gant starts him with a strike, but can’t get him to bite on the next two. He hits a slow roller and gets the runner at 2nd. How huge that insurance run is right now.

    2-1 Cards.

1 to go. That insurance run is even bigger now

It looks like Hicks came in and was relaxed and hitting his spots. When Contreras didn’t chase and he ended up walking, it seemed Hicks melted down a little. I really wonder if he is doubting himself right now. If so, he needs to go back to starting.

I am glad Gant has been so tough this year.

Gant with the save! Sweep it is.

Any doubt who the player of the game is? None. It’s a co-award. Obviously Wainwright, but we definitely aren’t in the clubhouse with a victory without several of Wong’s plays.

Bote now up. After the first two miss the plate, Gant coaxes one into the zone for 2-1. Now a high fastball makes it 2-2. Foul ball. Now a grounder to Dejong and the brooms are out!!!!

2-1 Cards, 4 in a row and the hated Cubbies are vanquished!!

Granted the games were close, but gscottar, are you still asserting the Cubs are dominating the Cards or are you willing to now join me in calling the two teams competitive?

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SHOUT IT TO THE WORLD?????

Hicks is just like Rosenthal. You never know what you are going to get. He needs to go to Memphis and work on the consistency and throwing strikes.

YOU CANT KEEP RUNNING HIM OUT THERE!!!!!!

If so, he needs to go back to starting.

Why would you make a 2 pitch pitcher a starter when he’s been just fine in the bullpen? Maybe he shouldn’t be closing, but he’s going to (rightly) stay in the pen.

Nice sign of life by the team sweeping Chicago. Could be a catalyst for good things to come but they’ve got to show more signs of improvement.
