1:15 p.m. RHP Adam Wainwright (4-5, 4.94) vs. LHP Cole Hamels (4-1, 4.02) Fox Sports Midwest // KMOX // WIJR
June 2, 2019 at 8:34 am #92634We are now 2-3 against the blue menace. Let’s even it up today.
We should see Knizer today.
June 2, 2019 at 8:54 am #92640Do you mean as a pinch-hitter or starting? 😉
It depends on how bad they want to give Knizner a start. With a day off Monday, any perceived need to rest Wieters is minimized. Especially given how Shildt sticks to his lineups, I expect to see Wieters on the lineup card today.
Maybe they give Knizner a start in the Reds series, where the stakes are not as high. We shall see…
June 2, 2019 at 10:42 am #92648I hope Waino is Bueno today.
June 2, 2019 at 10:47 am #92651Speaking of this Knizner kid, how do you pronounce his name? He seems to have one too many “n’s” in there to make it flow. I mean “NIZ-ner” sounds awkward – it sounds like you have a head cold when saying it that way. “KA-niz-ner” is even more mangled. So my guess is “KIZ-ner”, with a silent first “n” that rolls off the tongue pretty well.
Anyway, one of the smartest moves the front office did this past off season was ink Wieters. He is a pro, and obviously still has a lot left in the tank. Kind of a big guy for a catcher, but handles the position with grace and ease.
As of right now my plans are to be at the ballpark in late July when these two clubs do battle. I hope to be there the 29th I think it is (a Tuesday), and will spend the day around ball park village and the museum, take in the game that night, then Wednesday head up to Chicago. I am meeting up with my cousin there for the National Sports Collectors Convention. Still a couple of months away, but that is the tentative plan for now.
June 2, 2019 at 10:48 am #92652Score one for gscottar!
#STLCards lineup today, with Knizner making his MLB debut:
Harrison Bader, CF
Paul DeJong, SS
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
Marcell Ozuna, LF
Jose Martinez, RF
Jedd Gyorko, 3B
Kolton Wong, 2B
Andrew Knizner, C
Adam Wainwright, RHP— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) June 2, 2019
June 2, 2019 at 10:51 am #92653Bikemike, all you had to do is check Knizner’s player page here. It is KIZ-ner. If you tune into the radio today, I imagine Shannon will use all of those pronunciations and several more! You know the going gets really tough when he just calls him “the Cardinals catcher”. 😉
On travel plans, I was already scheduled to connect through O’Hare on Friday and once I figured out what was happening, I turned my one-hour layover into an all-day stop. Going to the game with my Cubs fan lawyer friend who has season tickets. He already warned me on what not to wear, as if I needed a reminder. Wrigley is not a friendly place for non-Cubs fans and even worse when they lose. My main hope is to not have to listen to that dreadful “Go Cubs Go” jingle.
June 2, 2019 at 11:46 am #92666Whats the weather like in St. Louis for this one? Assume the storms are all out of the way and its smooth sailing and full speed ahead today?

June 2, 2019 at 12:03 pm #92671That lineup and batting order is exactly like I would have done it except I thought they might put Munoz at 2B against the LH. Since the game last night didn’t end until 1am or so I figured Wieters wouldn’t start.
June 2, 2019 at 12:11 pm #92675Good point about the late ending last night/this morning affecting today’s lineup. I had not considered that.
June 2, 2019 at 12:17 pm #92679Do you guys think that Harry might end up being our everyday leadoff hitter? He’s got plenty of speed and can still a base. Might not be like Vince Coleman but could fit in there nicely.

June 2, 2019 at 12:21 pm #92683I always like to see a guy get his first sip of coffee. What a thrill it would be to make a big play to help your team beat its arch rival at home in your first game.
June 2, 2019 at 12:24 pm #92684I think we could see Bader leading off against LH’s more and more. Whether it becomes everyday depends on how he progresses hitting RH’s. For now I would expect Carp to continue getting those assignments.
June 2, 2019 at 12:29 pm #92686I like Bader as the lead off hitter. He just needs to lay off those sliders in the dirt from rhp.
June 2, 2019 at 12:33 pm #92687I like Carp at 2 or 3, maybe 5 against lhp, sometimes I think he is just to patient at the top.
June 2, 2019 at 12:36 pm #92688I am interested to see how well Waino and Knizner work together. We need at least 6 or 7 strong from Waino.
June 2, 2019 at 12:37 pm #92689Kind of surprised Munoz isn’t starting to have an all righty line up against Hamels.
June 2, 2019 at 12:39 pm #92690Still a lot of head-scratcher ABs and swings from Bader to be a consistent lead off, but the potential is there. At some point it might click as he keeps trying to figure it out, then he would be ideal. He needs to develop a 2-strike swing if he’s going to be a good lead off.

stlcard25ParticipantWaino worked with Knizner at Springfield last year I believe. He had good things to say about Andrew’s abilities. Hopefully we get to see all his skills today.
June 2, 2019 at 1:10 pm #92694Let’s do this boys, get those brooms ready.
June 2, 2019 at 1:12 pm #92695I think as lead off Bader would see better pitches hitting in front of DeJong and Goldy as oppose to hitting 8th in front of the pitcher
June 2, 2019 at 1:23 pm #926962 BB. Not a good start, need a dp
June 2, 2019 at 1:25 pm #92697I’d like to see Bader try to bunt for a hit to start the game.
June 2, 2019 at 1:25 pm #92698Gonna be a short day if he’s getting squeezed like this all day. Huge DP though
June 2, 2019 at 1:33 pm #92700Have a feeling because of last nights game ending at 1am, we’ll see a low scoring game. And Carp May play a big part
