Wong leads off with a single to bring his average up to 288. Can DeJong do anything other than K?

Wong is 3 of 4. The next 3 hitters are 0 for 11 with 8 Ks. Enough of Carp? DeJong needs a day off. O’Neil hasn’t hit since early.

Out on 3 strikes in a row, watched the first 2 go bye.

Now Carp strikes out on a bad pitch to strand Wong at 2B to end the 8th. Carp is 0-7 today with 4 Ks. Hopefully Shildt will find more games as opportunities to save Carp for pinch hitting duty, if necessary.

Could we have won this game with our regular everyday lineup?

    That is the $64,000 question.

Poor old Cubbies… the Cardinals lose a game and CHC still falls farther behind. Who said that the Cubs would sweep the Brewers because it was at Wrigley?

    Five thirty-Eight:

StL 92% for the play-offs and 73% for the title. CHC 66% the play-offs and 25% for the division.

The run differential is down to 3 behind for the Cards, CHC + 70 STL + 67.

THE MAGIC NUMBER IS DOWN TO 24.

Da Cubs just ain’t that good, despite what is written about them here.

Ny, I hope you still feel that way by the end of the day on September 22.

Better yet, by the end of the day on September 29.
