Cards now with a great chance to win it in the 9th, score still 3-3. Bader up with runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs. Yadi hit a double moving O’Neill to 3B. Now Bader walks it off with a single. Final 4-3.

Bader was amazing. Two RBIs today, second and fourth runs.

    Super Martinez again!

That’s two in a row I think. Maybe he’ll find his niche there.

Maybe give Ozuna and Goldschmidt a night off in game 2. We need them to keep winning.

The win is terrific, but six hits could stand improvement. Let’s knock their socks off in game two.

Might as well get greedy and get the sweep tonight. As as been pointed out imagine what could happen if Goldy or Ozuna could do ANYTHING. Might be a good idea to let them sit tonight.

“9 out of the last 10”

1st time this year I think.

Wow, this team just doesn’t quit. Glad to see them keep fighting to the end of these games and find a way to win. Brian was right…at least 3/4 was doable. I had them pegged for a split and I was wrong…happily wrong, I might add.

Hopefully Ponce throws another gem and the bats can hit Castillo like last game somehow in the second game. The Brewers lead the Cubs 1-0 in the bottom of the 8th. It would be huge to get another half game on them.

EW wrote:</The costly play was Martinez not catching the fly that most any MLB OFer would’ve caught. If he makes that catch, then no runs would’ve scored. Two double headers in a row hurt with having to mix and match the lineups. But this is September, JMart should never play another inning of defense.>

Geesh you are starting to sound like McLaughlin who absolutely hates Jose until he does something good. I almost died laughing with Jose stole 2b and Danny Mac near had a conniption fit of disbelief. He has stated the usual woulda, shoulda, coulda BS just afer Jose took one off the wall. Of course that steal later got him in a position to score. He got the second hit of the game, got hit by a pitch and took a walk which (with ONeil pinch runnng) turned into a walkoff. So in my book Jose didn’t do too bad and as for Fowler catching that ball you have your opinion and I have mine and since Jose’s positioning is determined by Willie Magee I will take it that he made a nice play off the wall and held the runner to a double – twice.

Not trying to be a smart alec but there is a reason I don’t comment during a game. Actually two reasons – 1: I can’t multitask as I am watching the game on a delayed recording(to get rid of commercial) and 2: The only time I tried doing it I made some ridiculous comments that came back to bite me. Some seem to like to do that. I am now a single tasker – watch complete game – comment later.

ONeil and Jose Martinez were together on rehab in Springfield. Jose hit at a 500 clip. In the last rehab game for ONeil, he got a single and struck out 3 times. He needs to go to the Harrison Bader school of pitch recognition for a few weeks. Unfortunately it is will soon close until next season but a lot of people on TCN seem to thing he is our next LF. I hope not until he gets his SO rate down to an acceptable level. Munoz has also gone to the dark side on pitch recognition lately. But today he did no harm. I suspect we might see Tyler ONeil start tonight.

The lineup for tonight. Quite a few subs, but needed to give Goldy and Ozuna a break. Hopefully the Memphis gang keeps the hot hand.

    K Wong (L) 2B
    P DeJong (R) SS
    T O’Neill (R) LF
    M Carpenter (L) 3B
    R Ravelo (R) 1B
    H Bader (R) CF
    A Knizner (R) C
    D Ponce de Leon (

Also, Yelich just took Kimbrel deep to give the Brewers a 4-0 lead. Another chance to gain a game and a half on the Cubs today. Wouldn’t that be delightful??

STL25 – is that the official lineup? Ravelo and Carpenter – YIKES – please no. Goldy is overdue – what did they do against Castillo last week? Oh well, I guess 3 of 4 ain’t bad. but it could have put us up 4 on the Cubs.

MM3, that is from the MLB site. So it appears to be the official lineup.

there is a reason I don’t comment during a game.

My comment had nothing to do with JMart’s positioning. He did a poor job of tracking the path of the ball and gauging his position to the track. Yes, our opinions are 180 apart on this one. I am confident enough to not shy away from commenting during the action. No shame in occasionally being wrong if you’re making honest assessments.

That lineup looks to me like its a lineup where the manager doesn’t care whether or not he wins or loses. Remember the last time this happened? After we beat Washington the first three games and then threw out a getaway lineup? And then we fell apart.

Its September, these players are making big, BIG $$$. We better put our foot on the throat, on the gas pedal, and keep it going and not give away a game.

Why is Ravelo a bad choice? He has only had 20 plate appearances in the majors and this will be only his 3rd start. That’s hardly enough to gauge what he could do.

Listen carefully to that sound coming from chicago. Wait for it. Wait for it. Can’t make it out? I couldn’t either. Same as yesterday.

Any day without that silly song becomes instantly better.

cubs were shut out, but don’t blame the umps. They seemed to contribute to their cause more than the players (tossing Grandal, questionable strike zone, steal at second, the hit by pitch).
