Solid work by Brebbia. I wonder who will take the 9th? Fernandez?

Wong is five of his last six with a double and home run. Up to 279.

Peraza might have had the best outing of a Reds pitcher tonight.

Fowler’s wRC+ is up to 105, Wong’s is now 102. We will need all hands on deck if Goldy and Carp can’t be normal Goldy and Carp the last six weeks.

Gallegos in to finish it off. It seems like he’s pitched a ton but it’s 5 days of rest for him.

Yadi trying to finish off the putouts himself, catching the first two pop flies. The Reds had a position player piychy and now a pitcher pinch hit in this game. Weird 9th inning.

Lorenzen just doesn’t want to go home I guess…fouling off pitch after pitch. Finally Gallegos gets him and there’s your winner! 13-4 Redbirds and first place is ours!

I was surprised they brought Gallegos in for that situation, but the 5 days of rest is surely why. They need to keep their best RP sharp. After 5 days and roughly 15 no-stress pitches, he’s likely ready to go in a big spot tomorrow if needed.

Great win, but why couldn’t they have traded a couple of these runs in last night?

Congrats on the anniversary, colhusker!! Glad the Cards were able to bring home a win for you in celebration.

Cubs lose after leading going into the 9th again, am I a bad person for being happier about that than the Cards win?

Four hitters with three hits. Another with two.

Carpenter was 0 for 4. I don’t know whether to feel sorry for the guy, or hate him. The only one that can save him is himself, and he’s failing at it. I can’t see any reason to continue to start him.

I have been critical of Cardinal hitters for taking close pitches for called third strikes and swinging at so many pitches out of the zone. And for not fouling off borderline pitches like the best teams seem to do.

So I charted tonight’s game in detail; Results.

Cardinals only swung at 5 bad pitches tonight. Four were fouls and DeJong grounded out on the other one.

Only six strikeouts with only one (DeJong) called. Seems like he and Carpenter are always 0-2 after the first two pitches.

Cardinals fouled off 17 pitches with two strikes on the hitter. Reds had 12 with Lorenzen 5 of them.

If this is new style hitting I am all for it.

We caught one of the best young pitchers on an off night where his command was bad. I suspect we get Bauer Sunday. Would be tough.

Great to be in first place alone again. Have to start beating the good teams.

To win the division, on the morning of September 19 the Cards need a 2 game lead based on those final 10 games.

Nope. The Cards won’t see Bauer in this series. He pitched on Wednesday and was bombed for nine runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Nats.

No, you are not a bad person. I spend most of of my existence wanting to watch the Cubs lose. If for some reason we don’t win the division I hope the Brewers get it again. I can stomach the Brew Crew 1000 times more than the Cubs.

Forget about the shipwreck in Chicago and those milquetoast Milwaukee Brewers. They ain’t that good. We have the best chance of winning the NLC.
