Edman with a walk to lead off the 8th. Now the top of the order is up. This is the chance to make it happen.

14 SOs top of the 8th. Not going to win many games that way.

Euro one could have hoped but the last two outs were made on the first pitch the batter saw from that pitcher. Man how the game has changed.

Fowler and Carp do not advance Edman. Goldy up with 2 outs and the Reds bringing in Iglesias to close.

Carp is slashing .233/.333/.300/.633 since his return. Not sure why they “promoted” him back to the top part of the order tonight. Seemed like 6th was about right.

Absolutely unbelievable that Carpenter continues to be featured at the top end of the batting order. It seems the worse he performs the more confidence it instills in his skipper. Granted, veteran players should be given a little more leeway to right their ship, but MCarp’s ship has been gathering barnacles for quite some time now. He has hurt this team immeasurably here in ’19.

He did a nice job that inning as well.

colhusker, the boys are no doubt confused at the plate tonight.

Helsley with another scoreless inning after Paul G bails out Paul DJ on the bad throw. Last chance coming up.

Well, that’s a start. Onzuna reaches on a BB. A PDJ jack would tie it up.

Roast beef with Mac & Cheese is a meal fit for champions, Wooster! I bet Wooster played a little ball back in the day….and played it well. I had Popeyes Chicken for din-din as the wifey was out of action tonight. How does 2 white breasts, red beans and rice, corn on the cob and 2 apple-cinnamon pies grab you? Popeyes has the best apple pies on the planet…..like 10 times as tasty as McDonald’s apple pies.

And right after I hit send Wong with an RBI double to make it 1-2 Reds with Wieters pinch hitting for Helsely.

Why not take a pitch Wieters?

It seems ridiculous that the Cards have a guy with an OPS+ of 68 in the 6th spot in the order, and he’s due up in the 9th as the tying run, and he actually bats. It matters.

    Cards lose the game 2-1.

Wieters seemed like a poor choice for a number of reasons. Thomas has swung a hot bat so why not give the hungry rookie a shot?

Still, this game was lost with all the Ks and inability to drive home the chances they had in the 3rd, 4th and 5th.

The offensive performance was brutal tonight. The Reds have a good pitching staff. However, the Redbirds need to step it up if they want to make the playoffs. Too many strike outs, missed out when opportunities were presented, the team struggles to consistently get runners on base or hit with runners in scoring position.
