Thomas-CFAugust 13, 2019 at 6:53 am #101885Guys, you got it all wrong. This will be the lineup:
Edman-RF
Arozarena-3B
Goldschmidt-1B
Ozuna-LF
DeJong-SS
Carpenter-DH
Molina-C
Fowler-CF
Wong-2BAugust 13, 2019 at 7:46 am #101896Edman – 3B
Fowler – RF
Goldschmidt – 1B
Ozuna – LF
DeJong – SS
Carpenter – DH
Molina – C
Wong – 2B
Thomas – CFCarp will become ‘injured’ (after the first strikeout) in the 3rd inning and be replaced by Arozarena
August 13, 2019 at 8:12 am #101898I was going to go with something similar to Rats. Haha.
I’ll officially go with:
RF Fowler
3B Edman
1B Goldschmidt
LF Ozuna
SS Dejong
DH Carpenter
C Molina
2B Wong
CF ThomasArozarena will be the late inning pinch runner.
August 13, 2019 at 8:25 am #101905Edman-3B
Fowler-RF
Goldschmidt-1B
Ozuna-LF
Dejong-SS
Carpenter-DH
Molina-C
Wong-2B
Thomas-CFI think Game Card nailed it. This is what I was going to with also.
August 13, 2019 at 8:26 am #101906It sucks for Arozarena coming up fresh off of Fowler and Thomas having very good games. He should play, but there’s no way they don’t give the aforementioned two another start. Also, Edman starting and Carpenter DHing makes perfect sense especially with Jose Martinez out.
stlcard25 has the most likely lineup imo.

Guys, you got it all wrong. This will be the lineup:
Edman-RF
Arozarena-3B———————–
That’s not unheard of here haha.
August 13, 2019 at 8:32 am #101910I like either Fowler or Carpenter DHing. The defense improves either way.
August 13, 2019 at 8:35 am #101912I am guessing O’Neill will get a rehab stint soon, assuming he is close to returning. Arozarena and Thomas have that time to get at bats.
August 13, 2019 at 9:23 am #101920If they want to maximize everything:
Arozarena RF
Edman 3B
Goldschmidt 1B
Ozuna DH
DeJong SS
Fowler LF
Molina C
Wong 2B
Thomas CFAlthough I give this a less than 5% probability.

That is theoretically correct. However, in his first 10 days with the Cards this time up (with Ozuna or O’Neill on the IL the entire time), Thomas got zero starts and only five plate appearances. Edman made four starts in right during the same period.
The manager-speak was about matchups, but I looked at the data and that is BS. First of all, neither has any track record against these pitchers. The only advantage Edman has is a better mark against LHPs at Memphis this season (but not with StL). Too bad none of the four starting pitchers were lefties. Tanner Roark, Dustin May, Chris Archer and Joe Musgrove are all right-handers.
Normally, I am not a big Shildt critic, but his justification of playing Edman in RF over Thomas simply does not hold water.
With Martinez out, perhaps one of the rookies will get a chance to play even after the two DH games just ahead, but is that optimal for anyone?
August 13, 2019 at 10:59 am #101930He started in Leftfield because he could bat left-handed against the RH pitchers that you mentioned. That was the reason and I agreed with it.
August 13, 2019 at 11:41 am #101932Never mind the fact there are right handed hitters that can hit right handed pitching better than Edman. Just put him in because he can hit lefty (and because Wieters is already catching, otherwise…).
Honestly, I think that Schildt may be posting on this message board.
August 13, 2019 at 11:56 am #101934How about a top 3 lineup of:
Edman-CF
Edman_LF
Edman-RFAlthough it doesn’t give Arozarena or Thomas to play….
August 13, 2019 at 12:07 pm #101936Honestly, I think that Schildt may be posting on this message board.
Mrs Shildt?

You see a lot, ATripleShy,….you most definitely see a lot.
As cockeyed as Rat’s predictions may sometimes appear, if it’s one thing I’ve learned after knowing the man for 13+ years, it’s that his prognostications are almost always in the ball park, if not nestled right there at home plate.
August 13, 2019 at 12:37 pm #101943Looks like straight out we should win this game tonight just by pitching alone. But you know how that goes. We still have to score to do it. Looks like they are powered by Sodo and Merriweather. On our projected lineups I see lots of good choices but do you guys really want Carp as DH? Really or do you just want to live dangerously. I prefer sure things myself.
August 13, 2019 at 1:12 pm #101950Here is the real thing. Not a prediction…
1. Dexter Fowler (S) RF
2. Tommy Edman (S) 3B
3. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
4. Marcell Ozuna (R) LF
5. Paul DeJong (R) SS
6. Matt Carpenter (L) DH
7. Yadier Molina (R) C
8. Kolten Wong (L) 2B
9. Lane Thomas (R) CFAugust 13, 2019 at 1:16 pm #101951Wooster wrote:

Eventually, if he doesn’t get it going they will come to the point where his presence on the bench will be preferable.
August 13, 2019 at 1:22 pm #101952Nailed it.
August 13, 2019 at 2:24 pm #101953Well at least we have a new guy who can pinch-run now that Thomas is starting.
Seriously, though, did anyone expect Randy to be getting starts after what Shildt did to Thomas?
August 13, 2019 at 2:34 pm #101954I just consider it a small victory for reason that Thomas actually got a second start. Probably knows he will return to Siberia after an 0-fer. No pressure.
This is only the fourth time all season Molina has hit as low as seventh. So that is another positive from this lineup.
P.S. Fowler has a .918 OPS over the last 10 days. Ozuna is at .875. Carpenter .633. Edman .733.
August 13, 2019 at 3:05 pm #101955Nailed it.
I’m withholding judgment until I see Arozarena pinch run late in the game.
