Mejia sucks! This is the FO throwing any crap at the wall and seeing if it sticks.
Surprising. At the end of this game, it appears the Cards will be 1-4 since Mo landed the trio of Mejia, Cingrani and Abreu.
You know what that means. 7 innings of shutout ball coming up.
It was only 6 shutout innings. Quit exaggerating!
Disheartening start to an important road trip. However, there are 51 games to go. Plenty of time to get things going.
No need to whine, cuss and grind your teeth folks. We were thoroughly beat by a better team – a much better team – and will probably be beat twice more before we return home to play the worst team in the division where, if the stars align, we may win two of three. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Helsley performed yeoman duty last night. For his troubles he will have the next three days off. Mejia – he could have the rest of the season off.

Every starting position player in the Dodgers lineup last night was either right at or well above an .800 OPS.
Goldy and Ozuna are, but not by much. ALSO, the highest Cards BA for a Cards position player is .269 (Jose Martinez).

Guess its best to forget that one. Watched the highlights and almost all the big hits were right over the center of the plate waist high. Can’t do that

This all seems like a good argument to be sellers at the deadline, honestly. We could have sold out our future and still not been able to get enough to be as good as the Dodgers (on paper). Long term, this team is best off with a late season collapse and the rational front office and managerial fallout that should ensue. Being just good enough to barely miss the playoffs puts the team in purgatory, and I’m tired of being there.
Glad I missed the debacle last night. I am telling you….total overhaul or years coming of bad baseball.

It wasn’t the loss to, arguably, one of the best teams in baseball that irks one. It was once again being made to look like a T-ball team to a guy pitching his 2nd game in the bigs. Unfortunately the Cards have a history of collapsing in the face of a rookie pitcher.
One difference noted in last nights game that may have accounted for only two hits. Dodgers did not do the tourist bit on pitches in the heart of the plate. Cardinals seemed to say – Oh gee, I should have swung. And that has been happening all season. I played ball for several years. It is hard to center up a ball on the bat but when it is in the center of the plate and one watches it go by that tells you they were guessing or hoping for something else and didn’t see it out of the pitchers hands.
What is Shildt even talking about? This is an example of talking out of your behind end.
Mike Shildt said Michael Wacha had good stuff tonight, which raises the worrisome question of what would have happened if he’d had his ‘B’ stuff. Yielded seven hits, including two home runs in 3 2/3 innings.

If Mejia is waived, then I hope we go with Fernandez or maybe Whitley for a debut. Will Robinson ever get healthy enough to remove so they can add a guy like Arozarena? Then again, with the way they refuse to play Thomas, is there any reason to move Randy up so he can ride the bench?
BHC, you attach far too much importance to GM and manager speak. It is as old as the game itself and clearly not limited to StL. They aren’t going to knock down their guys publicly – how would that accomplish anything positive? Without help from an unknown source, Wacha will be out sent there again and again.
They are running out of bullpen arms to try other than Junior… At least he (probably) won’t sit like Thomas (and Arozarena would). Other option could be to use Woodford or Cabrera in a long role. Ponce can’t return this soon (for another three or four days).
Not trading for a pitching upgrade at the deadline while this team was in first place is a borderline criminal act but whatever. Mo must feel very very secure in his job is all I can take from that.
As for the OF in 2020 I would like to see Ozuna, Fowler, and JMart all gone. I don’t think this team is going to be a great offensive team in the near future anyway so let’s emphasize defense, athleticism, and youth. O’Neill, Bader, Arozarena, Thomas, and Adolis-Garcia are all defensive, athletic, young, and CHEAP. We might throw in a LH veteran like Peralta or Eaton to balance things out a bit. Then there is Carlson who should be ready within the next 12-18 months.

So you and others say but there was not much to choose from without giving up far too many prospects. At least that’s what we are told and I take them at their word. I doubt there is anybody on this forum including our esteemed leader who knows exactly what was being bargained for and what was the demand for players in trade. So far the best I have heard is one SP for at least 4 prospects including some playing at the major league level now. We were never in on the Greinke trade (and I am glad). One SP who I would not mind seeing return is Lance Lynn. He is having his second coming with the Rangers and appears to be pitching the same stuff as he left here with. Is he a free agent this off season?
I didn’t want a pitcher. We are in better shape than most teams. I want to get away from spending on overage hitters who are at the end of their careers. Getting rid of Gyroko was good. Now, where can Carp and Fowler go? We give up a run a game at least with Fowler or Munoz in center. Munoz allows a triple on a ball he should have caught. Fowler can’t get to a high, high fly that bounces into the stands for a double—really? Is his hitting good enough to make up for his defense? Osuna is horrible in the field, has no idea where the ball is going. Most people can learn. These guys are in their thirties and professionals. I’ve seen highschool teams with better defensive outfields.
We aren’t going anywhere until we get over this idea that it is good to strike out. How many hitters do we have that are products of shifts? We can’t learn to hit the ball where it is pitched? In major league baseball, you are disabled by a shift? We aren’t going to win anything except maybe a wild card game until we rebuild seriously. We have the young arms and more on the way. Do we have any hitters who are ready now? In one year? In two years?
Other teams do.
After MO failed to land a SP and then gave his sob story i wouldn’t believe a word that comes out of that clowns mouth, all he is good at is trying to put lipstick on a pig!
I try to look at this situation as “a glass half full” and remain hopeful the club can “find a way” to make the playoffs. However, I am not blind to the number of roster issues and perceived talent levels that exist throughout the organization. There are clear gaps in talent between the current Cardinals roster and other top tier major league teams. Finding a way back to a path to a pennant will be a big task and potentially take time.

I would keep one of either Fowler or Martinez around so that it’s not an entirely green outfield. If someone will take Fowler, I’m ok with keeping Jmart around for spot starts and pinch hitting. If Jmart is traded, I could live with Fowler being the RF for another year and having his lefty bat around.
As for the young guys, besides Adolis Garcia who is an AAAA guy at best, the others can provide nice depth and it would be fine to see if two of them could be starters. I suspect Carlson will be knocking on the door next year and ready to go in RF or LF in 2021, leaving the other guys to fight for the other two spots.

I have a hard time believing we couldn’t have found an upgrade over Wacha/Ponce without gutting the farm system. The irony is that we hoard our plethora of OF prospects but then don’t promote them to St. Louis to play.
