Ho hum. Just a routine save for Martinez in a routine game and the Cards take their customary position in the standings in a routine season.

while I wasn’t present long tonight, I want to thank everyone for helping this team climb the ladder tonight and take over first place.

Cards alone in first. Who’d have thunk that at the end of May?

Just when it looked like this team was toast, they reel off a 12-3 streak to take the definitive lead in the NL Central. Goldschmidt is still striking out too much. But, his home runs seem to be mostly with men on base, and many have been at critical times. It’s not like anyone (other than Wong) is hitting consistently. But, everyone is turning what they do into wins.

I wish Flaherty could have gotten the win. He has been pitching so well and hasn’t had a win since May.

We picked up ground in the WC on Washington and Philly.

You may not have been with us long tonight, but your limited presence may have made the difference, 1982Willie. Any guesses on how long we are going to be hanging onto 1st place?

What a sublime pleasure to arise on a cool, cloudy morning after a long, difficult heatwave and find our birds alone at maximum altitude in the standings. I’m sure it was due to the excellent PBP work of Mr. Pugsley. Sorry I couldn’t join you but those late nights kill me. I’ll watch the game later this morning when I get back from grocery shopping.

    Rah Cards.

Well done to the Cards and to our resilient posters, who helped bring home the win. It’s great to see Goldy heating up, and hopefully others around him soon too. Jack pitched well and the pen mostly navigated the tough Astros lineup. First place looks good on us!!

Flaherty looked great last night for the most part and over his past several outings, case and point as to why a pitchers W-L record shows zilch as to how good or bad they have been.

I’m excited to see Ozuna back at some point soon, the Goldy, DeJong, JMart and Ozuna middle of the lineup can hopefully put the baby Bears down to a WC spot!

Great point, the fact that he still leads the team in RBI is shocking actually, especially considering the tear P.G. has been on and the spot in the order DeJong got to be in up until lately. I also forgot Carp in my last post, he’s a toss up to returning back to his normal level.

However, Ozuna has millions, upon millions, and then a few more millions to lose by not getting back to his old form….

I’m sure it was due to the vicariously excellent PBP work from Mr. Pugsley.

You’re too kind CardinalinFrance!….but please take note all fellow posters…..compliments of this nature are always very very welcome.

I have mixed emotions about Marcell’s return. Sure, it just makes sense to welcome the nice offensive production. But, I still have the fear of toying with this team’s present winning way. I don’t know if I would want Abner Doubleday himself influencing this squad in any manor.

So what you are saying Pugs, is that you don’t want the Cardinals to make any trades to improve the roster, either? Can’t have it both ways… 😉

Interesting comments on Ozuna. I look at it this way. What if he had had the exact same season for another team including the latest injury? Would we be interested in trading for him? Yes he would be a rental but despite some of the misgivings I would favor taking him on for the stretch run. I am glad we already have him as he insures we have a decent outfielder and a good batsman. His arm has been much improved this season.

Point well taken Brian and Minuteman3. I know it sounds crazy, but as things sit right now, this is the team I want to go to war with. And if Mo and Shildt sat down with the team and echoed these sentiments, they most assuredly would be met with a round of applause that would dwarf Madison Square Garden while in celebration…..and very likely a championship ring to boot. LET’S STAND PAT!
