Our right field ballboy doesn’t look like he’s missed any meals in quite a spell. Wonder if he follows RatsBuddy’s same diet?……minus the foot long cigars.

Flaherty looks solid tonight. Hopefully the Cards can score off Urquidy soon.

Dexters lefty, wondering why Edmunds didn’t start tonight

    Bottom of 2

DeJong – Fair amount of empty seats here tonight. Paul walks.

O’Neill – Grounds it up the middle, where Correa quickly flashes over to snag it…flips to Altuve at 2nd for one and Altuve’s throw to 1st will not be nearly in time to get the speedy Tyler O’Neill .

Wong – Pops it a mile in the air to short right….Altuve drifts out, but he’ll give way to the right fielder Reddick who has it for out #2?

Wieters – Grounds it right at Gurriel who will take a quick little jump skip and a hop and then tap the 1st base bag to retire the side.

Urquidy is just about running away from the plate. No reason to not throw strikes. He does swing at a center cut fastball and then a slider to get the K.

On this date (July 26th) in baseball:

1948 – Babe Ruth makes his last public appearance at the NY premier of “The Babe Ruth Story”….he will die 3 weeks later.

1978 – Johnny Bench hits home run #300 in a 12-3 setback to the Metropolitans.

1984 – Commissioner Bowie Kuhn announces that A’s pitcher Vida Blue will be suspended for the remainder of the season for a cocaine possession conviction.

This date kind of a slow one historically.

    Bottom of 3

Flaherty – Caught gazing for Urquidy’s first whiff on the evening.

Munoz – Slow roller to 3rd where Bregman gloves it and fires it to 1st for the out.

Dexter – Grounds out to 2nd and Cy Urquidy has only yielded the one soft single by Dexter in the 1st…..but luckily for St. Louis, Jack Flaherty has been just as stinggy.

Flaherty with a nice battle with Altuve and wins on a nice breaking ball.

As is typical, Flaherty is tasked with being perfect and as is typical, he makes a mistake. Brantley homers and it’s 2-0 Astros.

Michael Brantley takes Flaherty for 415 ft. of real estate and just like that it’s 2-0 Houston.

We better flash some of that power that we’ve put on full display lately. If this Urquidy chump tames us tonight, it most likely will be a very long weekend…..that doesn’t bare any fruit.

    Bottom of 4

JMart – Jose caught looking for strike 3 on a low one that just nipped the zone and Jose doesn’t like it, but then quickly thinks twice about engaging the home plate ump in debate.

Goldy – Lines a solid single to right and yes!….Urquidy is hittable.

DeJong – Ahhh! Pops up to Correa at short for out #2.

O’Neill – Tyler cues a fly into left for a hit with Goldy holding at 2nd.

Wong – Grounds it…..up the middle and by Altuve and out into center for a hit and Goldy will come a galloping on in with the first Redbird tally with O’Neill scampering around to 3rd!

Wieters – Strikes out swinging, but the Cards slice the Houston lead in half.

Friday night’s are typically slow game threads with people out for fish frys and what not, but with our recent hot streak you’d think more posters would be onboard. Looks like it’s just us two, stlcard25.

    Bottom of 5

    Flaherty – Whiffs swinging…. Urquidy’s 4th K victim.

Munoz – Come on Yairo….you can hit this guy. Not this time as he hits it in the air routinely to right where Reddick will easily slap the leather around it….2 down.

    Dexter – Whiffs.

Jack sets them down 1-2-3 once again. That’s 108 pitches thru 6 frames and that will do it for his night’s work….very nice outing! Now let’s get some runs this inning and make him a winner.

That’s an outstanding outing against a team where every players ops is over 850 and most over 900 (except reddick)

    Bottom of 6

JMart – Thrown out at 1st on a dandy play by the SS Correa.

Goldy – Whiffs flailing at one about 2 inches off the turf.

DeJong – Walks for the second time tonight. 87 pitches for Urquidy.

O’Neill – Oh for a long one right here! Blisters a liner….caught by the SS Correa to retire the side….ouch that hurt.

Yuli (short for “Julie”) Gurriel has indeed been as hot as a firecracker, but Brebbia gets him this time on a little linebacker. And John Brebbia makes quick work of the Stros here in the 7th 1-2-3.

I’m tuned in because it feels like a must win in this series given the matchup. But knowing this team the last few years they’d be better off facing verlander

At least Flaherty won’t take the loss, but more work to do after Wieters’ HR ties the score.
