Let’s keep things rolling Redbirds! Just hoping the rain will have passed thru and the field drains!

Indeed 1964Cards. I too am anxiously awaiting Rat’s weather report to see if we’re going to be seeing Cardinals baseball in the Windy City this evening. Years of experience has taught me to rely on Rat’s meteorological reports far greater than the local and national meteorologists.

If the St. Louis manufactured fireworks continue again this evening, I would like to see Oli show a little mercy to our neighbors to the north and take his foot off the pedal a bit. No contesting of any umpiranarial calls, no seizing any extra real estate on the base paths and so forth. Getting absolutely destroyed in consecutive games in your own ballpark has to be misery and torment beyond words for both the organization and it’s fans. I would like to see out team show a little compassion and win this game by only 9…..not more than 10 runs.

Hack Wilson. 191 RBIs in 1930 (156 games season). Cubs wish they had him in the lineup these days.

There is a line of storms/rain about 100 miles west of Chicago as I type this. Probably near the Rockford area. Too early to tell if the high pressure system in the upper midwest will negate any meteorological impact this system might have on tonight’s contest. Which, of course, is seven hours away as I type this.

And din-din today will be a Hungry Man’s Fried Chicken TV dinner, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, a piece of apple pie, and some Turkey Hill Homemade Vanilla ice cream.

Looks like Hack pulled off a little on that pitch, but that’s okay. Many are unaware that he often times collected RBI’s when he K’d.

Hack looks like he was built like an ox. I wonder if he prescribed to the Babe’s diet of beer and hot dogs.

I’ll concede that yesterday’s game ended with an adequate outcome, but it’s a genuine shame that the W was entirely overshadowed by the failure to complete the shutout…Oh well, I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it with your steak and lobster too. Or something thereabouts.

Hack’s diet consisted of enough whiskey to induce what could be termed genuine dire concerns from his manager Joe McCarthy. To drive home a point, McCarthy summoned Hack to his office at which time he placed two shot glasses on his desk. He then filled one glass with bourbon and the other with water and dropped a live worm into each glass. As Hack curiously looked on, the worm in the water swam around happily as the worm in the whiskey quickly died. McCarthy then asked of Hack, “What does that tell you?” to which Hack replied, “It tells me that if I drink whiskey I won’t get worms”…

Boy was I wrong about Nathan Church. He has really been a bargain for the Cards and a solid contributor all over the field. Here is an interesting comparison:

    Nathan Church
    AVG: 257
    HR: 8
    RBI: 28
    OPS: .722
    CBT Salary: $782k

    Kyle Tucker
    AVG: 246
    HR: 7
    RBI: 45
    OPS: .733
    CBT Salary: $57 Million

Haha! Beautiful Hack Wilson story, TD. Unfortunately, they just don’t make them anymore like Hack, Harry and Dizzy.

Makes my day that the always entertaining Carter Le Grand got his “gadgets” up and running again. Also hats off to the esteemed Rat on another magnificent meteorological report and delicious din-din to boot. My din-din tonight will be at the Del Bar in the beautiful Wisconsin Dells. We have a 4pm reservation and will be ordering either the King crab legs or the twin lobster tails……or who knows, maybe I’ll have my lovely fiance order the king crab and me the lobster so I can indulge in both.

Yeah, Church has really been an unexpected boost to the 26 man, gscottar. I like him a lot and lately it seems like all of his hits have had a huge impact regarding the momentum and atmosphere of a game. When he gets a hit, it really counts. I also really like his overall scrap and scuffle approach. Hopefully, he’ll continue to contribute.

td…nobody cares about a shutout when you win 17-1.

That line of storms has intensified and is now zeroing in on Chicago. Probably within the next couple of hours the Windy City will be hit by alot of wet stuff.

The only hope is the tarp is on the field and this cell moves out fairly quickly. We may very well see a delay in this one.

We should be able to tag a couple homers off Imanaga. When totally fresh, he’s almost unhitable. When his arm starts logging a fair amount of pitches in a season and he loses a couple ticks off his pitches, he’s extremely vulnerable. He still probably had a couple decent 2026 starts in him, but mark my words, he soon will be getting rocked so hard that even with their injury depleted starting rotation, Imanaga is going to pitch himself out of their rotation.

Imanaga has only 1 decision in his last 5 turns which was a W against the Mets at NY in late June. However, the Cubs are 4-1 in those same 5 turns. He’s compiled a 2-2 W/L record in 5 career turns against the Cardinals to go along with a 3.82 ERA. The Cardinals last faced him at the end of May in StL and touched him up for 5 runs in 5.1 IP’ed in a game in which he took the L. Valezquez, Sagesse and Herrera each tatered up against him in that game. Leahy performed nicely in his most recent turn allowing only 1 run on 2 hits in 5 IP’ed. Hopefully he’ll follow up with a similar performance at Wrigley this evening if it don’t rain. In any case, it’s almost always difficult to get an accurate read on any baseball game prior to first pitch, but this one seems particularly so.

Schwarber’s collected 30 HR’s to lead the Big Leagues. He’s also amassed 129 K’s to lead the Big Leagues. It’ll always be my view that the Phillies would be far and away a better team if he was moved down in the order out of the lead-off slot. To have his bat leading off a baseball game is one of the most inane approaches that I’m aware of in recent memory.
